Now this is getting interesting. If they can pull it off correctly then I might be able to jump over to MS devices.
Biggest problem I have at the moment is apps (banking etc).

no lag (compare a $89 Android to $89 Windows Phone)
upgrade path to Windows 10
better UI (subjective, but I use one of everything)
better email/calendar
etc

Just about everything :P

I have an iPhone and if MS had a high end phone now I would get it. I have used all three platforms, Android is just plain annoying and always looks and feels unfinished and tacked together. IOS
has a walls everywhere. Windows phone just works and works well even on minimal hardware and plays nice with so many devices. I also think Windows Phone is the only true one handed OS.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Lets see
1 device that can run 3 different OS apps on it.

At the moment my bank does not support Windows phone, if MS pulls this off correctly (like blackberry did) then I would be able to install my banks android app on the device and have no issue using it.

Also you get a lot more for a lot less when buying windows phone hardward.
I just picked up a Lumia 735 with wireless charging for $250 this weekend, it has no lag at all, battery life is good and has a really nice screen. Can't buy any iOS phone for that price and android devices around that price are not on par with what the lumia is.

That is the thing with Lumia devices, you don't need the high end phones to get a great phone, just look at the 830 (mid range) and the 640 (sub $300 phone) they are both really nice devices and great value. Now if they also could run android apps then you are going to have a lot more people move to them.

My daily driver is an iPhone, but my work-provided phone is a Lumia...I barely use it, but would love to...it's a really nice phone with some great features, but it doesn't have the apps I want...yet.

Windows phone is great for work/business

Out of the box it comes with MS office, exchange/365 support etc without having to download anything them.
We found at work for android or iphones we had to sign them up with google/itunes to be able to download office software.

Windows Phone is great.. I mean it's seriously leagues ahead of IOS and Android in terms of everything but the apps available.

If they can pull this off MS have won potentially won the phone wars.

I love Windows Phone and have no desire to change at the moment. Admittedly I have only really used Windows since I won a Lumia 520 and it was my first smartphone (having never considered windows before) and have just upgraded to the 735. Not really used IOS at all other than the odd 2 minute play in a shop, but based on playing with my partner's Android phone Windows seems a much better experience.

Just to inject a dose of reality into the discussion - what Microsoft have done is to provide frameworks that allow DEVELOPERS to RECOMPILE their platform specific native Objective C (iOS) and Java (Android) code so that they then have their app running on Windows Phone 10.

You will NOT be able to go to iTunes or Google Play and download and install any old app you find, and run it. The developer has to take the steps to recompile and publish their app to the Wndows Store...

So in theory it means better app support for Windows Phone, but it's still totally dependent on the developers to decide to "port" their apps. I'm more interested in seeing what Microsoft is going to do to convince them that this is actually worthwhile. I doubt that the promise of next to no effort to do achieve this, is in itself enough to convince most devs to do this.

And apps that relie on Google walled apps will probably need to be made to work with the MS equivalent maps mail etc

My understanding is though it should only take the dev's a portion of the total development time to modify their iOS or AOS app to be compatible with the whole w10 family not just wp10 so well worth the effort
