I have an ipaq 4705 with windows mobile5 on it.  It was acting strange (kept rebooting several times a day) so I did the hard reset.  It asks me to presss the calendar button.  It then says clearing memory, please wait.  But it never does anything different.  I can hard reset again and it will hang on same spot.  If I soft reset, it never gets past startup screen.  I have taken the unit off charger and let battery drain all the way but no difference.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

Interesting. The fact that it's failing to clean the memory on a hard reset could indicate some hardware fault...

Is there any solution?

Don't know how hard reset works differently with windows mobile 5 vs. 2002, 2003.  I guess that't the advantage of 2002, 2003 operating system.  When battery goes out system is clean.  With windows mobile 5, programs and such are still there, so if something screws up there is no way to clear it out, or is that not true.

It is a bit different than you think. Regardless of the flash storage, a hard reset will erase the contents of your device, running Windows Mobile 2003 or Windows Mobile 5. It works the same.

Using flash storage just helps you not lose contet if the battery runs out - a great improvement.

When I say "hardware problem" it could me a memory error - in which case using one of other version of the OS wouldn't solve at all.
