Same issue for me on a Blackberry Pearl. I got asked if I wanted to allow HTTP connections to www.google.com, then the GPRS arrows flashed a bit, then nothing. Looking in Switch Applications I can see that Google Maps is still running, but there's no UI for it.

And I'd like to try out this new "My Location" stuff... (geo-location via cell towers rather than GPS)

Are you using BES or BIS

I'm on BES. I suspect the issue has something to do with it not being up to connect to the Google servers correctly (although the GMail and GTalk applications both work fine on my Pearl). The previous version told you that it couldn't connect, by way of a message box, but this new version obviously can't be bothered.

Sounds like its hanging on the initial connection to download the EULA before loading the application, which platform version are you using? (menu, settings, about)

Also try looking in Menu -> Options -> Applications, select Google Maps and select Edit Permissions to make sure Connections isn't denied. Could also try changing from Custom to Allow

Failing that possibly try a different APN, Internet and direct.vodafone.net.nz are working for Google Maps on my Pearl (v4.2.1.107/p2.3.0.83)

edit: lol I should probably read the dates on posts...

For the BES user, i would suspect that your IT policies disallow external connections, and disallow maps from running. I had a customer with the same issue and we ended up having to open up a couple of the IT policies. For the BIS user, sorry, no idea. RIM recommend that you remove the battery and let the OS reload, but I take it that you have tried it......
