I have a jamin i-mate and I have had to do a hard restart, ever since i have found that sometimes when my phone screen turns off it wont turn on (even with the power button) and my whole phone does a full reboot, I am running WM5, it has been suggested to me by a friend that i run a rom update. I am currently running rom version 2.13.9.23 WWE, dated 2/23/06.

I have heard the great risks of updating the rom and would like some advice on a rom that works and how to install it.

You can register on i-mate using your phone's IMEI. This will give you free access to all updates available for your model. If there's an update then you will find it there. Just look for the download section.

Has the phone had any recent drops or bangs??
Sounds like similiar to my Jasjar last year and it turned out to be damaged??

Well, just follow the links in the message you posted and create an account on the new imate website...

You can also go direct to imate's ftp site at ftp.clubimate.com

Just by coincidence I flashed a Jamin today with this rom:

ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/JAMin_WWE_213923_2139123_022021_ship.zip

Not sure if there is a "best" way of doing this sort of thing but these are the key points in my procedure:
- have latest version of Activesync installed (available from MS)
- have fully charged Jamin plugged into PC through USB
- save any pictures, music etc that you have stored on the phone to your PC so you can copy them back later
- just run the executable and wait...
- once the upgrade is complete this particular rom lets you choose the Vodafone settings so you should pretty much be up & running without any fuss. Just copy back any of your media files etc that you saved earlier.

I found it very straightforward, I think the risk is that if there is any interruption (eg power loss to the PC) then you could have a brick on your hands(?) Up to you to weigh the risks. From my perspective I didn't find this at all technical, it's actually pretty user friendly I think, no secret key presses or menus to navigate.
