So up until now I have never owned a blackberry
I just got hold of a 9700
I have to say its a well built surprisingly easy to navigate device

Question
I inserted a 2 degrees sim and it found it all ok and shows me strength and 3g

I f i want to use it just for receiving and sending txt and calls it should work ok?

I just remember there was something weird about blackberry's that you needed a special account or something?

They had their day, didn't keep up and last I looked were in quite a bit of financial strife because of it. A friend of mine got their original touch screen BlackBerry "iPhone killer" what a joke that thing was, the entire screen was a clickable button....wtf.

For the older blackberries you need an account for e-mail, or the BB world app store. Everything else you can do without. If you want those functions, Wi-Fi can work for the BB store with the right set-up. Otherwise Vodafone and Spark still have BB account post-pay account plans.

I am looking forward to the hotness that is the passport myself. But have enjoyed the one-handed text/e-mailing of the earlier models. Much more powerful than touch only.

BB's day hasn't happened yet. When the hybrid, phablet and tablet come hunting for the android smart phone, phones with more immediate and innovative design functionality will have their day, especially with the android compatibility and cross-platform 'Mix' that come standard now.
