Apologies as this is placed in the wrong forum but i didnt know where else to place this.

Ive just recently gotten hold of the tomtom one xl after reading the reviews up here on the site. While setting it up however, it reported that i dont have the latest version of the NZ maps. Current version installed is 710 while 711 is already available to download.

1) Any clues what the additions are in version 711?
2) Shouldnt the manufacturers be placing the most updated map versions on their devices prior to sale?
3) Can new customers be provided with the latest maps for free?

I am noticing that this device does not index the roads out in East Auckland very well. Cant find some roads that have been there for at least the last 10 years. ie: Union road, Huntington Drive.

Anyone else has this device? Would love to hear from you.

1) I have no idea.

2) Yes manufacturers DO put the most up-to-date software on their devices. However, it will depend on how long the reseller/retailer has had the goods in stock as to whether or not it is up-to-date when you buy it.

3) Yes you do get the maps for free. When you register/activate your unit online you can then 'purchase' the updated maps free of charge. However this free upgrade is limited to within 30 days of activation.

Thanks for the responses rscole. Managed to resolve the issue and updated the maps. Can confirm that the updated maps do resolve the issues with the lack of road indexing for the eastern suburbs of Auckland.

i resolved it by opening up the HOME application. Choose the File menu > Latest Map Gaurantee option. It downloaded version 711 of the NZ map straight away.

It will search for the latest version and download it straight away at no charge. It automatically picked up the promotional code without needing me to type it in. As rscole mention, this needs to be done 30 days from registering your device otherwise you miss out.
