Well I'm now a proud owner of a N95 "Classic"; I purchased it last thursday morning. It is certainly a heavenly device, but it fell from grace on saturday morning.

On saturday morning I was experimenting with the uPNP feature along with my wireless router and WMP11 (all upnp enabled) to establish a connection, which I did (eventually). It was during another set up, this time 'Show media files stored in your device' (user manual, p.59) the media gallery carousel froze just as i started to browse the media I wanted to share. The gallery carousel had been fine up until then. I may have selected 'Share images and video' in the home network setup. Anyway, from then every time I went to gallery and then on to the image carousel, it froze and didn't show any thumbnails.

As I felt a hard reset was looming, so I dutifuly made a backup (and potentially made a backup of what ever may have been causing this). I performed a hard reset using the *#7370# as read from other topics here. I restored my data to the phone. The problem happened again, which lead me to believe one of my videos or jpegs were corrupt. Whilst in this state, I connected it to the computer as a 'mass storage' device and progressivly deleted all my images and videos untill I got to the one which couldn't be deleted as an 'application was using it'. Bingo! I'd found the corrupt jpeg! It was a jpeg taken from my old V3x. The strange thing is that when I restarted the gallery carousel, it worked fine, but it didn't show any thumbnails from my V3x pictures (showed a tiny icon of a boat with a black bar through it i.e. corrupt/wrong file type), but they did display when I viewed them in full screen!?!

Saturday afternoon .... After semi-solving the image (i.e only have pictures taken by the n95),

I'll cut to the chase, It's frozen up so badly that even the power switch would barely work! It did this three times as on the fourth I had to remove the battery!!!

Sunday morning. After playing with the GPS and other things, all seems good. But (there's always a but) then I decided to make a muvee. During the saving process (to memory card, which had been formatted since saturdays fiasco), the application froze and then the screen went blank. When I say blank I mean you see then background theme and the backlight is on


... And the backlight is still on as I'm writting this as I don't want to risk any damage by removing the battery again.

I'm resigned to the fact that I'm taking my N95 back to the shop, but if the N95 'comes right' I'll use it without the memory card as It seems to be a common factor.

This my be another N95 horror story, but I still want the N95 as I've seen enough to warrant keeping it.
