Greetings all,

After reading, in another N95 forum, that leaving your charger connected may shorten your battery life.
I've checked in the manual and yes, on page 123, 3rd paragraph, 2nd sentence it does mention "... overcharging may shorten it's [battery] lifetime".

Up until now I use to plug my charger in before I went to bed and hey presto a charged battery in the morning. But as the N95 charges in under 2 hours (less depending on what was left in the battery), there is going to be an extended period of time that it's left "overcharging".

Solution 1, Maintain the status quo and keep an eye out for a new battery at some stage.

or,

Solution 2, Charge the phone when you wake up or even before bed. But this solution isn't practical for people who may be out the door at a moments notice.

Solution 3, Car charger. Stuck on the motorway? why not top up the power.

Solution 4, Purchase an timer for the power point, set it to work for no more than 2 hours whilst your asleep.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Laurence.

P.s. I saw the film 'Cloverfield' the other weekend.  Nokia brand phones featured as a subtle form of advertising, I found it ironic that one of the characters Nokia phone ran out of power! It wasn't an N95 though.

When I first got my N95 I made sure I charged it when it was running out of juice and also made sure I never over-charged.

9 months down the track, I now charge it every night before I sleep.  I haven't experienced any significant drop in battery life.  Remember, batteries do start to lose more charge with time so... if I haven't noticed any difference, then over-charging isn't an issue.

All night everynight here too. Wish Nokia would hurry up and release their eco-chargers, stops charging when the phone is full...

I also charge it whenever I'm in the car, and sometimes during the day from the wall when desperate (thats when 2-3 spare batteries isn't enough!).

I'm using the N95 as my primary modem while I'm away from home at the moment so I tend to leave it charging then too...

I usually charge it when it's going flat.

If it is at night I will leave it going over night or if its in the morning will charge it at work.

Don't have any problem with how long the battery lasts, have not noticed myself having to charge it more often than I usually do.

I have had it since march.

i really only charge mine when it needs it (low batt) or when i'm using something thats particularly draining to the battery i.e playing music for 6 hours straight at work :) i always notice when mines finished charging too coz it makes a beep. i also have a car charger and i have a spare charger at work too. i like to look after my battery's life after owning the horrible moto v3x Frown i honestly can't imagine buying another phone after the n95, its truly the easiest and smartest phone i've ever had, i regularly upgrade when i get bored of my phone but not anymore. so happy i got this instead of the w950i that i was gona get when the price dropped.

Hey guys!

Thanks for your input.

I'd have to admit that I'm somewhat suprised that Nokia didn't build in a 'cut off' of sorts for when the battery is fully charged.

An 'eco-charger' sounds like an excellent idea but I'm cynical of Nokias motives. Why not build in the cut-off into the phone initially? or is it a marketing ploy to get the energy conscious to buy a slightly higher priced adapter?

Mind you, any power charger that isn't plugged into a device will still draw power i.e. the transformer will still be energised and loose power throught iron/coppers loss (hysteresis loss? can't quite remember). If an eco-charger 'unplugs' the transformer componant then it would be really good!

Anyway, I've opted for my last solution. I bought a cheap timer and I'll plug my N95 adapter to it tonight.

cheers.

ive noticed that my battery life is actually better now since i upgraded the software.
i used to charge it everynight maybe because i used alot of apps since i was new to the phone, i was on it 24/7. now i just use it to make daily calls and photos here and there.
i got myself a USB charger from trademe for cheap that helps when im out and about

im pretty happy now that ive convert most of my mate to get the Nseries phones, now when i go over to their place i hog their chargers

I assume you mean the V20- firmware? Some guys have done some pretty in-depth testing and you get aroun 20% extra battery life on that firmware, pretty significant really.

My battery usage just seems to get more extreme! Now I have Handy Taskman, Flipsilent 1.04, RotateMe and Emoze all running on startup and then I use bluetooth/browse the web/use music player/take photos and some days I'm pretty low by the time I get home...even on the V20 firmware...
