It appears to affect earlier models too. If I've understood the articles correctly, then a recall should be announced by the time you wake up on Saturday.

Guess us SP2 users will also be in line for a replacement power cord.

Looks like you can get a replacement through this page:

Blah, no way to order 2 of them.

Just been chatting to them about getting a 2nd cord and they don't know how to do it and now i have to wait for someone to email me back from "3rd level support"

Do you have two devices? Or just wanting to order a spare? Supposedly if you have two devices, you just need to go through the process twice using the two different serial numbers

I have 1 surface pro 3 but I purchased an extra charger but the issue I have is that it does not ask you how many you need and if i go to make another order it asks for the 2nd device serial number which the chargers don't have.

Oh I see, that's pretty frustrating. They obviously didn't plan for the fact that people might've purchased chargers not officially associated with a particular device, it's all based on replacing chargers that came with something else that has a serial number.

Good luck

I just got off the phone to the Microsoft call centre in the UK as my order wouldn't go through via the internet. I asked the operator about extra adaptors and she said that we would just need to give them serial numbers of additional chargers and these would be replaced.

Pretty easy for just the one. One click and it was on its way.

This appears to only be the AC cord (wall to figure 8 connector) for chargers with a removable AC cable, not the whole charger.

That's both reasonable and disappointing at the same time.

Thanks, looks like i will need to call/chat to them again about it.  It does look like the charger has some kind of code but it won't let me put it online.

If they replaced the whole device then people would just use the old 1 as a 2nd charger which still creates the fire risk etc

I would rather have them replace just the cable than having to send my chargers back to get new ones

So i tried to call their NZ 0800 number and it has not been setup correctly on their end so now don't really know what to do as their online chat could not help me either.

I have now sent them a message on twitter
