Hey all, thought I would post this up in case any here missed it:

New freeware that allows you to share your phones internet connection, turns your phone into a wireless hotspot. Excellent stuff, but the current beta does not support encryption. I don't see this as a huge thing, as I wouldn't be using it terribly often, but it would be amazingly handy when I did need it.

If you have a PSP, iPod Touch, iPhone, Internet Tablet or similar device this is awesome!

I've been using it on my N95 with my iPod Touch and it works really well. I'd like to see some basic security for it though.

Absolutely, some security would make it perfect. WPA would be really good, WPA+Mac Address filtering would be perfect for me.

I set it up on my N95 but my iPod Touch just keeps saying, 'unable to join network' :(

My iPod Touch connected on the first go so not sure what would be wrong with your setup. There's not really anything to configure with connecting the iPod to the wireless network. Can you connect any other devices to the wi-fi network on the N95?

Yeah, I couldn't really see what the problem could be. Its a completely unsecured network, everything I've connected just connects as long as "automatically detect default settings" is selected...

Good luck - this is a cool piece of software.

I was reading at another site the other day and a guy there had a cool story:

His mate sitting beside him was grumbling about browsing over Edge on his iPhone, so he turns on Joikuspot and says "Why don't you see if there are any new WLANs here?". His mate does and starts surfing over Joikuspot, much happier at the speed of his connection and says "I wonder where this is coming from?". He shows his mate the display of his N95 and his mate pockets his iPhone in disgust and says "FU".

LOL, cracked up reading that one.

i love it when iphone owners get shamed by the n95. i just hate it when you see comparisons (like this totally bias cnet one) where they say the iphone has more style or it has qwerty (even though its qwerty via touchscreen which sucks) and they don't even touch on the fact that its missing all the vital components the n95 has. just by watching this years macworld video you can see how stupid americans are, nokia only hold about 3% of the american mobile market while apple seems to have roughly 20%. all americans want is a fashion item not an innovation. you could give them a stick, call it an iphone and as long as its hugely over-priced and they see enough people sporting one they'll buy it everytime. i am so sick to death of ipods showing up in every movie and music video that comes out too, go cloverfield with the nokia representing!

yeah. i do love that! my mate got the iphone and was bragging on about until i got the N95....now hes regretting spending the $1200 on the iphone. everytime sone thing comes out (apps) on the N95... i got check this out.... what u got for your phone??

I have an iPod Touch and it's keyboard definitely doesn't suck. People who say that it sucks, haven't used it properly (for longer than just a few days.) It has great word-recognition software that allows you to type really fast on it and it will correct your mistakes as you go. There's an iPhone web app which measures your typing speed, and I was average over 30 words per minute after just owning it for a couple of weeks.

I also had a Blackberry 8310 for a couple of months, and all Blackberry owners diss the iPhone's keyboard, but I found the Blackberry's keyboard terrible to use and the word-recognition software was too basic to be useful. The keys are too small and are too close together.

The only downside to the iPhone's keyboard is that you have to be looking at the screen while typing, whereas on my N95 I can often whip out a basic text message without looking at the screen. I don't mind not having a qwerty keyboard on the N95 but I would rather have the iPhone's onscreen keyboard.

i've used it plenty of times as my flatmate and one of my workmates both have one, yes it means i won't have used it as much as an actual "owner" and i won't be used to it, but just getting used to it doesn't make it a good keyboard, people get used to the smell in rotorua, it still doesn't mean tourists don't think it smells like sh*t.

amanzi: and it will correct your mistakes as you go

i hate word recognitiuon software. especially when its on an american phone, meaning half the words are spelt in american english not british english like mom not mum. it also makes it impossible to use text speech i.e txt me lata etc. from experience i've found word recognition software as well as predictive text are much slower than typing out the full word.

amanzi: I found the Blackberry's keyboard terrible

i definately agree with you there, unless you have the finger size of a toddler its next to impossible to type fast and accurately with the blackberry. they just squeezed a qwert keyboard into a space thats far too small for one. i am very pleased the n95 doesn't have a qwerty keyboard as the buttons would either be tiny due to its small form factor or they would have made the phone bigger to accomodate it, luckily they didn't.

that is a huge downside in my book. the iphone after all is a cellphone and cellphones should be able to be used in a variety of situations including when u can't always see every word you're typing. i know a lot of people who text while they're driving (not looking at the phone obviously) and also others who text so much they regularly write whole texts without looking at their cellphone.

what are you gona do when the bank you're in is getting robbed and you can't dial 111 from your pocket because you can't feel the keys?!

I never use txt language so that doesn't bother me, which is why I also use predictive texting on my N95.

Something else which always impresses people on my N95 are the speakers. I don't know of any other phone that has speakers that sound as nice as the N95.
