So now there's Win10 phones available on the market so people can buy and run a Win10Mobe device without mucking about with developer previews and beta versions etc.

Is anyone running a Windows phone with off-the-shelf Win10? How are you finding it?

I've heard it is more battery hungry than WP8, and that there are a few swings and roundabouts - some new bits that are nifty, and some that are a step backwards (losing Here Maps and Here Drive for instance).

More specifically, if I upgrade my Lumia 640 to a Lumia 650, will I be disappointed?

I've upgraded my 640 LTE (Vodafone version) to Windows 10 and the upgrade was very seamless.

In that time, the only issue I've had is the screen "freeze" when I've unplugged from the charger in the morning - pressing and holding the power button caused a reset and all was good.  I don't shutdown and restart my phone overnight - it's on 24/7, and this has been the only issue in over a month.

Battery life is brilliant (in other words, I've never drained the battery in one day).

There are subtle changes to the UI which works really well for me, and with the upgrade I got to keep Here Drive.

The Bluetooth changed subtly, which has meant that I had to re-pair with a couple of devices, but other than that it's kept working as it should.

One thing I found painful was that to get the upgrade, you need to install the upgrade advisor, go into that and "check" for an upgrade.  If it's ready, then you will get a button to push, which you then go back to the usual place on the phone to get the upgrades.  (This was just my experience on the one phone - so perhaps I'm special...)

Hope that helps.

There is a couple of nice features, but overall, I don't find it much different to Win 8.

I am trying it on the Lumia 550, battery maybe brilliant, but it is quite a slow phone.

Be interested in the 650 and reports on how it performs.

I hope not, as in terms of an OS for a smart phone it's the only Smart Phone OS that "just works"(tm) for me.

Running Microsoft 950. Finding it really good - the screen is gorgeous, takes very good photos, everything just works - nothing overly remarkable.  Have had a few times when its required a reboot, but nothing that has made me want to through it across the room (looking at you Android).  Battery life is easily more than a day under usual usage (in fact seems better in low coverage areas), and the fast recharge gets me backup ~80% in half an hour if I'm going out.

Basically it just works and works really well (as an upgrade from my 930, 1520, 1020 and 920 before that).  The release version of Windows 10 just seems to work better than the insider versions i tested on the 1520, but i'd expect that.  2 converts from Apple and 1 from Android this year based on looking at and having a play with my phone!

I agree with the above poster (I'm also running a 950), I find it just works 99% of the time and most importantly for the essentials like phone/SMS/internet/camera I never run into issues and everything is fluid and loads quickly. There are a few small OS niggles and features I wish we had in NZ (I am having trouble with Wi-Fi Sense, Cortana ffs...) but I do love the camera and am regularly logging 1.5 days of battery life and am out and about quite a lot.

I wouldn't worry too much about Wi-Fi Sense, apparently Microsoft is getting rid of it.

Ah, cheers. I just saw this on Microsoft's site: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/wi-fi-sense-faq

The greyed note box basically says all of Wi-Fi Sense will no longer work. xD

Two things put me off WP8.

One; Not being able to load more than one calendar entry at a time. I get a copy of my monthly roster in .ics or .csv formats and WP8 cannot handle multiple entries, the way around this to use another device the load the calendar entries into the calendar on that device and sync via Exchange.

Two; The Pebble app only works when it's running in the foreground. Once another app is running in the foreground the Pebble app stops, making a device like the Pebble useless. This is a deal breaker Does WP10 support multi tasking?

Is WP10 any better than WP 8 so far was these two issues go?

Also I'd be disappointed to lose Here Maps and Drive as I use these a lot.

Do you mean directly import a .ics or .csv file with the Windows 10 Mobile calendar app? I can't see a way to do this either. I generally subscribe to ICS files via the Outlook portal from a desktop and everything syncs with the phone without issue.

As for Pebble integration, you should probably talk to the Pebble CEO. I believe he turned down Microsoft assistance with producing an application for the platform.

Here Maps are still built in to Windows in the Maps application. The application also has turn by turn navigation built in so it is basically HERE Maps and Drive in one.

Yes, the .ics and .csv files are emailed to me. With the N9 I can download and open the .ics file from the email and import straight into the calendar. Not so with a Windows phone. I have to use a work around similar to what you mention.

There is a Pebble app for Windows Phone, at least there is for WP8. The problem is it doesn't run in the background like it does on other platforms. So far as I know this is caused by a limitation of WP 8.

That's great news.  I'd read somewhere that Here wasn't being put into WP10. I thought Here weren't supporting WP10 anymore.

It still connects to free crowd sourced WiFi

You can no longer share your WiFi passwords to friends
