Hello

A friend has just contacted me to say that he is having a problem with his new mmO2 XDA II. It seems that, when he clicks on image links in certain websites, nothing happens. I am not at all familiar with these devices or with the OS. But further questioning elicited information which seemed to suggest that the non-functioning buttons may be in forms.

I was wondering if there is a known problem. Or if, perhaps, some setting needs to be altered. Or ... Help! I'm groping here.

The Pocket Internet Explorer implements a subset of Javascript, called JScript. Perhaps these forms are using non-standard buttons on the webpages? Maybe these pages use some Javascript (note: this is not be mistaken with Java aplets)?

You can ask him to try an alternate browser. Have a look at Access Netfront.

Thank-you for that. It rather confirms my own suspicion that the issue might be related to Javascript. Although it does seem a bit hard to believe that there could be an inherent problem which renders unusable ubiquitous and critical features such as form submit buttons. I had rather thought that it might be related to security settings of some kind.

But, as I said, I am totally unfamiliar with these devices and the OS. And I have to say, if they are subject to such limitations, it is unlikely that I will be rectifying that unfamiliarity in the near future. ;o)

I will pass on this information and your advice regarding the alternative browser. Thanks again for your help.

No problem. On the other hand, I think that Javascript enabled buttons are the exception. Standard HTML form buttons are the rule, but if you have specific requirements...

It happens that one of the sites where this is an issue is a site which I administer. So I could try making various changes to the code and seeing how this affects things. Problem is, I don't actually have access to the device and its broweser myself. I have to phone the guy and ask him to try it and .... You get the picture.

I have a few other things going on at the moment. This one will have to go on the to-do list. But I will most certainly recommend this site to my friend. Expect him to be pestering you to distraction in the next day or two. ;o)
