I am working with a friend who is on the road and her IT staff is, let's say less than useful.
She is running an HP iPAQ 6910 and has the Alfaria client and ActiveSync installed.
Email comes in fine, but the outbox stays clogged up and does not appear to be sending.
All her ActiveSync setup has is a generic "Attention Required" notice with no real useful text.

Can someone help me get started??

First: is she synchronising to an Exchange Server or to Microsoft Outlook on her PC?

On her device you can set Verbose logging - look for the logging option in the Advanced settings on ActiveSync. After a sync check the log in the root folder on the device. This should give some information on why the server is not accepting the messages.

What's the error message on ActiveSync? When "Attention required" shows up you can tap on it to get an error code and a short message.

Also, make sure the email coming fine are really coming from the Exchange Server, and not on another local account defined on the device and working through POP3 or IMAP. If you find out the whole Exchange Server sync is not working, it could be many things - port 443 blocked, no certificates loaded, invalid username, etc.

Thanks.
It turns out that her Exchange mailbox was full, and when she deleted emails, it wouldn't sync up with Exchange to clean them up.
I logged onto a PC with her ID/password, cleaned up her email and all is well.
It is very confusing to an end user, because on her handheld she had about 200 messages in her inbox, none in her deleted items folder, and none in her sent folder. She deleted several "borderline" emails which could have been kept due to unclear information.
