Hi,

Received this at work, it was announced at the Sales conference and is now live. I've downloaded it and have had a play and it works really well. The point was made at the conference that the $10 fee includes any data that Compass downloads.

======================

We are very pleased to announce that
Vodafone Compass has now launched and is available for download onto your BlackBerry Curve 8310 GPS handset. This is a application providing location based services:

1. Turn-by-turn spoken word and , on-screen navigation instructions for walking or driving - a baby Navman if you will
2. Ability to search for a range of Points Of Interest such as airports, ATM's, banks, Dept stores etc etc. - then bring up their map location

3. Compass can send a TXT message of a location you want to meet someone at and if they also have Compass then it will pop up on their handset

4. Auto-update: notifies user when there is a new version available which they then click to download and replace the old version.

It will cost customers $10.00 per month recurring subscription or $2.50 for 24 hours use with no additional data charges, charged via Vlive! Simple!

Introductory Offer: anyone who downloads Compass before July 31st onto their BlackBerry GPS handset will get FREE use until October 31st. For more details visit: http://www.vodafone.co.nz/services/compass.jsp, or just go straight to http://go.live/compass with the Vlive browser on your 8310 Curve.

Hay this service sounds cool.

Does one need to be on BIS or BES plan to be able to use this service or just a basic data plan will allow customers to use it?

Cheers,
Nisch

Any plans for this to be available for non-Blackberry GPS-equipped devices?

From the Vodafone website

Which handsets can I use Compass on?

  • From May 1st Compass is available on the BlackBerry 8310 Curve and then from May 15th on the new BlackBerry 8110 GPS Pearl.
  • From July Compass will become available on handsets from other vendors

Never ask what sort of computer a guy drives. If he's a Mac user, he'll tell you. If not, why embarrass him?
