Hi,

hope someone can offer me some advice!

I have an iPAQ 2210, used to connect via bluetooth to the www with a SE 610.
upgraded to a K700i and cant now.

I can either connecect and then not open any web page, or i can't even connect.

I have pocket windows 2003 on my pda.

have used old settings, and new settings, tried to get info off vodafone website, all to no avail.

I have read there are a few probs with using this on this site, but nothing seems to work.

If anyone can offer any ideas, I would be most grateful.

Cheers

It seems there's a firmware upgrade avaialble - I've seem this reported in another thread. In any case, you should check that you're connecting to the correct CID defined on your phone. The connections definition on your previous phone could be different from this new one. Check which connection uses the non-WAP access and change the *99# code to be *99***2# (or any number depending on what sequence is your CID on the phone).

The CID is the definition of a connection to the network. The phone will have one for WAP (Vodafone live!) and another one to Internet access.

hmm, well I can get my iPAQ to connect to the WWW via the phone, but I can't get it to load any pages!
I get the waving windows icon, and after a while a "the web page could not be found" box.

any ideas?

It sounds like it's using the WAP gateway to access the internet. If this is on Vodafone New Zealdn, change the dial string to *99#, and add a Init String +CGDCONT=1,,"internet".

hmm, if I put that string in then I can't connect - get a 'problem with your phone settings' error.

I can connect without that, and with my number as *99#.

any ideas?

The string should override the settings on the phone - but it'll depend on what mobile operator you're using. Check this page for GPRS settings in the UK. You should replace "internet" by "[APN name]", where [APN name] is network dependent.

Sorted the problem now.
Mobile providers typically provide their phones with several WAP/internet settings, setting each one up depending on the contract/talk time etc. You need to tell the PDA which setting to use.

Users of an iPAQ 2210 with a SE K700i have to make the follwoing changes to their dial up settings on the pda.

ON THE PHONE
Check the CID number - Main menu > connectivity > Data comm. > Data accounts. scroll to the account your provider uses (right click) More (right click) account info. Note the External ID number.

ON THE PDA
Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connections > add new connection.
name it and choose ' Bluetooth Compatible' > next
enter the phone number as *99***x# (where # = the external id number as from your phone.) > next
Enter user name and password as provided by provider > advanced
enter extra string commands as follows
Z; +cgdcont=#,"ip","internet" (where # = the external id number as from your phone.)
Change other settings as spec'd by your provider (if not known, leave as is, chances are will work) > ok.
> finish

Wack bluetooth on on phone and device, and try it out!

This certianly works for Vodafone UK and Orange (with their unique settings). Hopefully will work for others too!

If your phone resets when you disconnect you need to get your SE firmware updated - this can be done online at the Se website if you have a cradle, or at your local service centre (details on SE website).

Hope this helps some people.

Trying to link a HP2210 with a k700.. no luck. I am running PC2003 on the PDA.

Testra couldnt even help. They gave me the string to enter :-

at+cgdcont=1,"ip","telstra.internet" AND *99***1# as the phone number .... no luck !!

I find it strange that the ID number for telstra.internet in my phone is ID: 3 and yet they are getting me to enter 1 into the command string.

does anyone know what breakdown of the extra string command means ?

Steve

Hi NCJ

Can you confirm the dial strings.... do they start with Z; or +cgd etc etc

Also, can you confirm the number to dial....... is it *99***x#, where # is the CID (which would mean the number would be *99***x3, if your CID was 3 or is it *99***x#, where x is the CID, in which case the number would be *99***3#, if your CID was 3

Thanks

Hi Frosty

Did you try to change the two "1" s in the dial string and the number to match your CID ??

Scott, - Check your messages - have PM'd you.
You are correct - the CID number is the x NOT the # - congrats on spotting the 'deliberate' mistake!
The string starts with upper case Z (resets the modem in the phone), followed by a ; (pauses in the string)

Frosty - As Scott says - try to replace the 1, in both the dial up string and the tel number with 3, as this is your CID.

Incidently, the 'at' you have the start of your string is prob redundant. This used to be a command for old Hayes modems I think, but is the norm in modern modems.

It took me a lot of attempts, but it can be done - bear in mind if that the K700i bluetooth is a little inconsistant; you may need to update the firmware, either online or at a SE service centre.

Hope you get somewhere guys!

Hi NCJ

FANTASTIC !! It works.

The Z; was the final missing link.

Wouldn't it be nice if either Sony Ericsson (they said, "we don't support Ipaqs") or HP (they said, "we don't support mobile phones") or my ISP (they said "you don't need a dial string") were actually able to tell us this in the first place ?!

Anyway, thanks again

No probs - gald to hear I didn't do it by fluke!

You're right - the companies involved are a little too slow in helping their customers!!!

Thanks guys, Yep the Z; did it for me too . And I replaced ID:1 with ID:3

A couple more questions.

If I want to get onto the internet using my IHUG ISP then I have to log onto their server. This means I have to dial out using GPRS doesn't it ? If so this also means that I am charged by telstra for the duration of the call ?

If on the otherhand I dial out using "telstra.internet" then my phone seems to connect when I tell google to do a search and then disconnects when it is finished. Then connects again on another search and disconnects ... is this right ?

Hi everybody:

I just changed my T39 for the new k700i:

I had the same problem related to Z command. Now I can start the GPRS connection but it disconnect automaticly: The message on the iPAQ: "Cannot Connect: The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings"

The same settings are working well via IrDA.

At SE support said should be a problem of BT software versions (1.4.1 on the iPAQ, updated) so I don't know what else to do...

Thanks for your help
