Hi All

My Okta Touch keeps connecting to T3G all the time, and I don't want it to. If I hit 'cancel' when the 'connecting' dialog comes up, it just relentlessly keeps trying. Does anyone know what would cause this? I have been going into the task manager to make sure that I don't have Messenger or anything else running in the background, but I don't.

I recently installed a program to keep tabs on how much my data is costing me, and everytime it connects it seems to cost a cent or so, and if it connects without me realising and stays connected for a few hours, there will be a few cents racked up (presumably from it polling the network?).

I really want to stop this -- I know its only a cent or so each time but its a cent or so I could do without paying. Plus I would imagine that having a data connection open drains the battery faster. I just want it to connect when I want it to connect. Help!

Thanks

Steve

There are lots of things - the usual suspect is the weather tab on the Okta Touch Today screen, which you can configure to download updates at some intervals.

Then look at the list of intstalled programs. And check that your e-mail account is not configured to download e-mails every [x] minutes.

Hi Mauricio

I did wonder about the weather, but I don't think that's it as right now it is saying it was last updated 4 days ago. I'm unable to find the settings for it to confirm, though -- do you know how to get to them?

I have double-checked my email settings and it is definitely set to manual retrieve only. None of the other programs I have installed require the net as far as I can tell.

Beginning to wonder whether the device just randomly connects when it feels like it - perhaps its meant to be always connected? I sure wish there was a 'disable data' setting I could choose.

"Last updated four days ago" means "completed updates" but if you have been interrupting it... I have an Okta Touch here but completely off because I am using the Samsung for now. I can't remember exactly but you can tap and hold over the weathe to check if a menu shows up. Or when in the weather look at the soft menu at the bottom of the screen.

If you can't find it let me know and I will fire up this one I have here.

Anothe thing you have to check: have you tried the Windows Update? If you do it, make sure it's set to manual. First because Microsoft is not releasing anything through that channel, second because if it is in automatic mode it will just keep trying it...
