Hi,

I have recently bought a QTEK 2020 (also known as XDA II) and am having some dialing problems. I live in Belgium, since a couple of years we always have to dial the area code in a number, regardless if it's the same or not. It is also allowed to dial a full number from a mobile, I mean including the +32 country code.

My problem is this, the way outlook constructs a number I get, eg:

+32 (03) 111.22.33

In my dialing rules is set : +EFG for all calls (this was standard).

Now when i select a contact to dial, it dials +32031112233 instead of +3231112233, which results in an unrecognised number. I tried to change the dialing rules to FG, but this did not work. If I remove the leading zero in the area code from the contact number, it does work.

What am I doing wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I am not willing to change about 1500 contacts.

Herman

Outlook will only place the ( ) around the area code. You have to enter the number without the leading 0. I'm sure I saw a small program on the internet that actually removed the 0 from numbers on the Contact list - this would be ideal for your case, but one use only.

Okay, I understand, but how then does the pocketpc distinguish between the country-code, area-code and number? I mean if it knows what the area-code and country code is, the E and the F, then it should also know to drop any leading zero. Or are we the only country in the world that uses a zero in the area-code that is dropped when dialing internationally.

Most countries drop the leading 0. The Pocket PC will follow the format defined as standard for the country in the Contacts entry. If you have a UK number like +44 709 555 1234 (a special mobile number) it's different from the US +1 215 555 1234. Note that the UK number when used locally is 0709. So it's important to enter the correct country in the Contact record.

Mauricio,

I have been experimenting somewhat and I beleive the problem is not with the pocketpc, but is in fact a problem with the dialer application. It plain ignores the dialing rules and has no option to turn it on/off. When I change the rules, it keeps dialing the complete number.

Do you know of another application that could replace the native phone-application and if this is even possible?

Tx,
Herman

Interesting - I have an i-mate Pocket PC Phone Edition here, and it's working fine. Just for a test, is the Contry/Region setting ok on your Pocket PC?

On your Contacts, tap Tools | Options and check that you have the correct Area Code (without the 0). Also on Dialing Locations uncheck the Use dialing rules.

But, yes, there are some phone replacement applications. You can look for this kind of software in our Software Store.

I changed the options as you suggested, but it makes no difference. I also tried another dialer-app, which gives me the same problem. So I'll guess I'll have to change all my contacts... Thanks anyway for the support.

Just one minor other question that you may be able to answer. Is there a way to send my contact using bluetooth to another device? I previously had an IPAQ 5450, which had an option to do this, but it seems to be missing in the QTEK.

What a thing... Well, to send a Contact tap and hold the name and select Beam. The first line will indicate the QTEK is looking for another infrared device - the next lines are actually searches for other Bluetooth devices.
