I thought the slider rocked :-)

All I wanted was WiFi and OS 6. What we appear to have scored is the T3 with a flash drive.

Oh well, keep your fingers crossed the Treo 650 isn't as mediocre or it'll definately be time to jump ship.

New thought after a couple of days reflexion...

This should have been the T|E. Same style, same good, solid handheld with tame features. But it's not a good example of top of the line.

Some people have theorised that the T|T isn't going to lead PalmOne's lineup - the new leader will be the Treo 650. Makes sense. But they still need at least a T|C2, or even better a WiFi handheld without that silly keyboard.

Also interested to see an interview on PalmAddict, revealing that OS 6 wasn't on the T5 because PalmSource didn't have the OS in a suitable state, and PalmOne are keen on releasing OS 6 handhelds at some point (if they last long enough).

Have you seen the PocketPC device you can get for the same money?

The problem with the T5 is that it's a T3 with a flash card. A year of innovation has given us no reason to upgrade. Bad for us, worse for PalmOne as they won't get T3 owners money.

PalmOne NZ have marked the T5 at NZ$799.

Harvey Norman have the iPAQ rz1710 at $499, the H2210 at $699 and the RX3417 at $799 (WiFi, BT, Camera). And HN aren't known for being cheap...

This is a strange device. I think it's primary fault lies in it's comparison with the T3. the T3 has voice record capability and a smaller form factor with the same size screen while the T5 has none of those things. The large memory is nice if you need a ton of memory, although isn't that what the memory card was for?

I am completely convinced this device should have been the Tungsten T|E2. The T3 should have continued as the flagship, or been upgraded with WiFi/better battery/OS 6/something.

As someone who prefers the Palm OS over Windows Mobile it's nasty watching them drive themselves into the ground. The thought occurs that Microsoft couldn't have done anything quite as damaging to Palm as the things they do themselves.

On the upside, OS 6.1 (under the emulator) looks exceedingly cool. Shame it's not available on any devices...

I've said it before and I'll say i again: the T5 is nothing more than a glorified T|E2. Other than the 256 flash drive function, I don't see much to "ooh" and "ahh" about. Like someone else mentioned, adding wifi would have been nice. Oh well, I'll keep trucking with my T3 and Zire 71.
