Just a quick note to all N95-1 (Classic) owners - a new firmware V30 is available for your handset. Check the very active discussion at Symbian-Freak to see how the new one performs...

Yeah, they have to be now since the handsets are the platforms for their own content delivery (Share Online, NGage, Maps etc). This means consumers don't have to find the latest versions for themselves, or even be aware they exist - they update the firmware and suddenly there are new icons to investigate...

Just installed the update and all working well. Updated maps is included, and auto screen rotation is cool. There seems to be some extra themes and ringtones included too.

Nice!

Did they make it so autoscreen rotation works in the active standby screen too? No idea why it doesn't on my N82, but did on my N95 8GB. Did they add sensitivity settings for it? Its a little hit and miss on the N82...

Although not strictly related to the firmware upgrade, I had to reinstall my apps, and noticed that Google maps has an update which makes it better to use.

Autorotate works in the standby screen as long as the keyboard isn't locked. If the keyboard is locked, it doesn't rotate. There's no sensitivity options, just on or off.

They'll be removing the standard SIP client from all N Series handsets. It will still be preloaded on E Series.

Although I have gone to the dark side ( bought and Iphone) I still have the N 95.
If I want to upgrade it to the new firmware I need to install a sim card.

Would it do any harm to install the one from the Iphone temporarily justy to do the upgrade??

I haven't used the SIP features, where would I find the client?

No SIP on N-Series is one of Nokia's irritating product differentiation decisions. The N-Series is for multi-media and fun, the E-Series is for business users - who apparently needs SIP more than N-Series owners.

One of the bloggers around the net said it best "Nokia needs to realise that E-Series owners have a life outside of work, and N-Series owners have jobs too" (or at least that was the general thrust of it).

Stuart , you'll find it under Tools > Settings > Connection > but for it to work first you must register with voip company that providers voip calls (e.g. justvoip, voipcheap etc.,).

how is the experience with iphone psychrn ? i tried couple of those iphone at vodafone stores and noticed they are quite sluggish. i mean clicking a menu item takes awhile to respond and entering text was quite difficult. probably that needs some practice.
