Hi everyone, just a quick headsup that a new firmware is available on some product codes (Euro 1 I believe) for the N82.

No change log as yet, but preliminary reports suggest improved camera startup time (~1.5 seconds - stellar!), improvements to the speed of the UI/opening time and music quality in the media player, general UI speed improvements, Maps 2.0 on the firmware, NOT HACKABLE. Others are now checking into the hacking issue, I'll update when I hear more on that.

sounds good have found this article though a few phones bricked after update might pay to wait for a week or two http://www.then82blog.com/2008/09/n82-firmware-v300019-available-reports.html

I wouldn't place too much stock in that. In online communities I trust (Symbian-Freak for example) no one has yet had problems. Usually a good idea to wait in any case and see whether there are any critically annoying bugs (like the missing key-press bug in N95-1 V12 firmware).

Thanks for the heads up, it looks like anyone who had changed their product code will be more likely to experience troubles with the update.

I know i'll be plugging mine in tonight and doing the update to see how it runs.

Well, i tried to do the update but it wasn't available for me yet. I'll give it a few more tries then forget about it probably.

It will roll out over all firmwares over the next couple of weeks, try again in a fortnight and it should be there. Hopefully by then someone will have a work-around to let you hack your handset post-upgrade.
