Does anyone know if its possible to save google maps data so you can use it later without incurring data charges? I want to load travel data onto my phone via my pc and then access it later but google maps on my Okta automatically reconnects. Its a shame its not a google gears supported app.

there are scripts that can rip the tiles out for use in external applications or possibly even google maps native application.

best to google "mobile gmaps" and "cached offline mode". I don't know how successfull you will be but good luck!

there are garmin and navman and tomtom applications for the pocketPC like your touch but you will have to buy those.

Sadly of course any applications that rip down the tilesets and cache them for offline use are also likely to violate the current Google Maps API terms of service - so an official solution may not be forthcoming until the upstream map data providers relax their TOS as well.

You are definitely better off getting the Tomtom navigator for your phone and preload the maps that way. Probably worth the effort and cost as oppose to getting lost.
