I am the owner of a TH55 but it is suffering charging problems and because of Sony's withdrawal from the European market I am told I might find it difficult to get a repair organised.

To get round the problem I have bought a Tungsten T3. However, I have immediatly hit problems. The T3 doesn't HotSync via the cradle. I just get two bleeps on the desktop and the T3 eventaully times out with the message connection could not be established. I have tried closing HotSync manager and re-opening.

I can get HotSync started in bluetooth mode but the T3 eventually crashes with a fatal error. On reset I am presented with a message that "this is a sony clie application only".

Help. I need the data my TH55 holds before it expires completly. Surely, I haven't got to start with my T3 from scratch. If I have it won't be worth the hassle.

It sounds like you are doing the Hotsync with the new device using the same Hotsync name... It will try to restore the .prc and .pdb files from your old TH55 into the new T3, and some files may not be compatible.

Also, to make sure the Hotsync is ok, don't use the Hotsync installed with your TH55. Instead, install the one from the T3 CD. Make sure you backup your Palm Desktop information before installing the new Palm Desktop or Hotsync.

Yes, I think I see what you mean. But if I do a complete reinstall and a new HotSync name how do I retrieve the basic data such as appointments, memos, ToDo's etc?

You could do a manual export of your data from Palm Desktop then reimport it.

Alternately, if you're syncing with Outlook then your data will still be intact.

Cheers, James
