I'm still the satisfied owner of a Zire '72' but more wary now. First of all my Zire's screen whine is greatly reduced. The blue coating is mostly all back. And the backlights are all white (super bright Light Emmiting Diodes in this case) not three yellow and one white. As you might guess it took a replacement under warranty to get it done. I took it back to the local Radio Shack store where I had purchased an extended warranty for it. About a week and a half later I had my new unit. While I don't depend on my device for work it was definately missed. A good reason to back up as much as possible beforehand either on the desktop or with a backup utility to a memory card. I have since restored all my apps including Pocket Tunes, Marbles 2, Palm Reader, and even added a freeware app. that mimicks the P.p.c's Today screen which displays current: tasks, battery charge, time, owner, and internal memory at a glance. I've also video'd a quick two day snow storm here in the high desert that turned out surprisingly well considering it's main purpose is not for that. The only thing I found out was it isn't too happy with extreme cold as the time date stamp changed to a green rectangle in one corner of the photos. It has since returned to it's previous format of time date. The reason for the return under waranty was not for the screen whine, or mine for that matter, but rather the chargeing jack in the bottom of the unit failed (disappeared completely) and I couldn't charge it. Now I need to purchase another memory card for general use as I need my first Secure Didgital card for future restoration if necessary as our desktop computer is too old to accept U.S.B. supported devices. I hope this helps any who have had or will have these difficulties.
