I was mulling this over at the Party in the Park in December. Now I was trying to find a friend in the teeming masses. And as it happened, Vodafone seems to have shat itself so no one could call or text anyway and I was trying to find someone from their description in their last text.

Is it possible with two n95's to send each other a link to their location with GPS? Presumably without having to enter the longitude and latitude.

I've been browsing third party apps and can't seem to find anything. I've had a look through the maps progamme in the phone as well, and you can send addresses easily enough, but it would be nice if there was a function that enabled sending via text the location.

Preferably not third party as not all of us install stuff on our phones, but perhaps it's in maps and i just haven't found it!

Sorted. Save a location as my place, call it something, such as tree. then either click on it, or go into my places and click send via multimedia. The other person receives a file that opens maps and they can navigate from there.

Well that killed some office time!

No fail. Sending the link via multimedia only brings it up as txt file. Bluetooth is fine, but a little impratical!

Although I can't actually help you (sorry), I'm interested doing something similar as well.
Could you please post your method in more detail?

Thanks!

Ok, it's third party, but Mobile Gmaps, can apparently send a sms which will even open MGmaps on the recipient's phone. I haven't tried this, though. I do, however, use the N95 version on my 6275i.

You can also register at Gmap-Track and track 'em live!

I use mgmaps as well and highly recommend it. It will show you the location of all your pre-programmed friends on the map as well.

Add a place by clicking little middle button, give it a name.

When the little cursor is hovering over the new place, click the middle button on it, then scroll down to send
It will then give you the option of sending via text, multimedia, bluetooth and infrared.
Text doesn't really work
Multimedia sends a txt file, that doesn't activate maps or tell you much
Bluetooth sends a file that when opened by someone else with maps, opens the location in maps so they can then navigate.

Sending via multimedia seems to be the key. But the file somehow gets changed so it doesn't work.

Anyway.,

If both phones have Garmin Mobile XT you can send peer points to each other.

Used it for the first time the other weekend at a big gig to link up with mates - very cool. I was sending from my WinMo Xperia to a Symbian N82 and it worked fine. Very useful for such circumstances.
