I just purchased a Motorola V551 phone. I am trying to connect my ipaq 1940 via bluetooth to the phone to access the internet and emails. Since my phone has Media Works which allows for internet connection and emails without dialing up, I don't need to establish a dial up connection with the phone. I just need to connect to the internet and email. my 1940 doesn't seem to allow that without a dial up connection. Any ideas?

All phones use dialup - it's not just like the old switched circuit that used the line. GPRS, EDGE and other packet switch network have a data layer that can be connected - you just have to tap into it.

The way of doing it via Bluetooth is using the "Dial-up Network" (DUN) profile. Follow the instructions on this guide. Although the screenshots are from a Nokia mobile phone, the idea is the same and it should work.

You don't say what network you're using, but each will need a different APN name and user/password. Check if you have this information, or let us know what network you're using so we can try and find it through our forum posts.

Thank you for the quick replay. I did see this article earlier, but I'll read it more closely. I am on the Media Net Network through Cingular. If that helps and you have additional instructions, I would greatly appreciate it. Basically when I get to the screen for the dial up number is where I get stumped.

Is the Media Net a GPRS/EDGE service?

If yes, then you have to try *99# (default) or try *99***x# where [x] is the number of a connection defined on your mobile phone.

Media Net seems to be WAP only but some information I found points to a possible Proxy configuration. So, in addition to the Bluetooth pairing and configuration there's the need to define a proxy on your connection.
