I just upgraded my 3870 from pocketpc 2002 to 2003. The upgrade went ok until I tried using the bluetooth radio. I now get and error:

BTTrayCE --- bluetooth could not be correctlt initialized
ahd
Bluetooth Manager -- The bluetooth radio failed to turn on due to insufficient driver memory available. You must perform a normal reset before you can turn on thebluetooth radio.

I performed a soft reset and a hard reset but still have the same error. I do not have any programs running. Looking at the memory, I'm only using 8Mb. Total storage memory available is 28mb.

Any idea's here? should i go back to pocketpc2002 (where bluetooth worked), or should I try loading the 2002 bluetooth mgr onto pocketpc 2003?

Thx

This kind of error used to happen with a beta version that leaked to the Internet. Make sure you install the one that is correct for your device, bought directly from HP or a store.

Thanks for the quick reply. This is an official version just purchased from HP. I did select the H3870 version w/ bluetooth.

Strange... It could be that you've got the h3850 instead (no Bluetooth)? If you tap Start | Settings please check the Asset Viewer. Does it list the Bluetooth radio and firmware? Could it be malfunctioning?

Anyway, if you can install the Pocekt PC OS 2002, please do. Then check if you can start Bluetooth.

well, received a new cd from HP since they claimewd a possible defective disk may be the problem. I re-installed ppc2003 onto the ipaq3870 with the same results - bt would not initialize due to lack of memory (see above thread). I went back to ppc2002 and BT works fine.

My conclusion - you cannot run ppc2003 and Bluetooth on the HP IPAQ 3870.

what a disapointment. HP was no help on this issue.

It does work - I have a friend who ordered one upgrade just so that he could use a Bluetooth LAN Access Point that offers PAN only.

It could be your device has a hardware problem? Or perhaps a different version?

I also have a HP 3870 and have upgraded it to pocket pc 2003. I haven't had any problems using bluetooth since the upgrade.

Thanks for your reply. One question though, do you have 128MB or 64MB of memory on yoour HP3870? I'm going to try again in loading the pcp2003 sware. As far as I know, my unit is operating correctly.

Thx

I have 64 MB memory on my 3870. When I look at the memory settings there is 31.52 allocated for storage with 25.12 free and 31.52 allocated for programs with 21.80 free. I hope this is of some help.

I have about the same memory conditions. Guess I'll try HP one last time then give it up. I've already spent way too much time on this issue.

I have exactly the same problem with my iPaq. If I use PPC2002 BT works; if I use PPC2003 BT fails. Bluetooth always fails to initialise when I upgrade to Pocket PC 2003. hp support have been useless too.
