As the title of the thread suggests, I'm seriously considering getting a Pocket PC of some description, I've posted this thread here because the iPaqs look quite sexy..

The question is, what do you guys actually use them for? Wi-Fi would be very cool, and Solitaire etc would be another good time-waster, but for the amount of money they cost, do they really deliver on the functionality scale? Once the novelty wears off, do you still use them? And most importantly, for a first-timer, what features are important and how much would I expect to pay?

Answers to any of these questions would be much appreciated :)

I have a HX4700 (secondhand from trademe, but in excellent condition) which I use daily, for both ome and work. Bluetooth & wifi are quite useful for accessing the net, and when I was in a cafe in Upper Hutt yesterday, someone had BT on their Motorola 600 enabled, and I sorta was able to look at all the pics they'd taken with the camera.

Price-wise, it depends on what models you are looking at......

Took me about a year to actually make use of my ppc.
Sort of left it there partly too busy and partly too hard to make it work for me.
Case of a solution looking for a problem.

Best thing I bought for it was Pocket Informant.
Well worth the purchase.
Next was mNotes, which actually make the whole thing work for me as am using Lotus
With these two it pratically run my life.
Threw out my appointment book after that.
Use it as a brain dump too, save some grey hair, all the useless info that needed to do my job but never use for years.

Did not take me long to get sick of Solitaire, and I download some pretty good demo games.
But kind of expensive to be playing games on a $1200 machine.
Same goes as a mp3 player using betaplayer.

Lately I finding use as a MSN Messenger portal, which then allow not having to load MSN on my desktop which tends to crash it.
Coupled with Transcreative Remote Keyboard, it is fantastic.

Free tools like easySMS, and bluetooth to cellphone makes it a ideal sms input device.
Have tried Wifi, but with such a small screen, it is almost a waste of time for me.
Have not found a good use for wifi yet other than novelty of surfing from across the valley.

Oh yea, reading ebooks and Avantgo while waiting at airport is fantastic.
Would be nice to have wifi in Koru Club.

Am finding using it as a Terminal Server Client to a Citrix Server is kind of hard with small screen, tends to use laptop for that.
The rest of the software is for look good or playing around.

It all depends on what you would have use for it.

In my personal life it is used for a few things, but where it really comes in is at work of course with my job in Business Development it is a life saver.

Contacts, Calendar, notes, email access on the road, web access on the road, word documents, excel spread sheets. It allows me to maintain everything I need and then some to in order to work on the road without having to take a bulky laptop. Even better when traveling overseas and not wanting to lug the laptop around.

I bought the Hp Ipaq 4155 which has the wireless and Bluetooth all built in plus Windows.

So for the cost of $390.00 plus the cost of a few other programs that are downloaded. Its well worth the cost to me.

I have even started to use it in my house now that I have installed a wireless access at home. Looking up movies at the theater, web, etc while downstairs.

I have an old ipaq 3850 but now i have imate smartphone2... i used to use my ipaq for schedule and calendar and notetaking and solitaire and mp3... but since then i have imate smartphone2 to replace my nokia 3650 (sister using that) and better outlook integration and contact management. my imate smartphone2 is now my "pda" and calendar and task reminder etc.

I am hoping to get either HX4700 or PDA2k to replace my ipaq 3850. mainly i want WM2003SE with VGA/landscape mode, better PIE, and CF slot with BT and WiFi...

I am also hanging for WM2005... when is that coming?

I too want to upgrade my smartphone2 to smartphone3i... greedy arent i?

LOL
