A couple of weeeks back, I downloaded the NZ Telecom 4.5 OS release from the RIM download site.

8830AMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel177_PL3.4.0.20_A4.5.0.127_Telecom_New_Zealand.exe

Installed fine on my 8830.

Today i went back there and noticed that it has disappeared. 4.2.2.353 is now the latest version available.

Would this indicate that there have been some compatibility problems. I am guessing so as we have installed 4.5.0 on a number of our 8830's and in all cases have noticed significant performance issues in the form of very sluggish operation. There are significant time delays in opening screens, recognising keypresses etc.

Does anyone ahve any additional info on this please.

Thanks
Marty

hmm not sure with the CDMA variant but for the pearl, 4.5 released by Hong Kong's CSL works a charm, it seems to have improved on speed. Let's see what others on Telecom are saying. I have read on other boards that the 4.5 upgrade to the 8130 pearl is not as successful as those for the GSM ones.

Edit:
Also I downloaded one not from Vodafone, I am running the CSL carrier 4.5 firmware which I find a better than the one offered on BB's Voda link. Unlike winmo I think BB firmwares you can mix and match, can anyone on world phone confirm this? Cokemaster?

I've been running a the 4.5 on my 8830 here. So far so no noticable decrease in speed, though I do experience a slight delay before the backlight turns on.

New browser and other features are well worthwhile, in my opinion.

Personally I prefer to use Opera Mini as my browser, but yes the features do seem quite nice.

Im not talking momentary delays here, these are looooonnng delays, like 20-30 seconds in some cases, especially when clicking the trackball when the device is sleeping.

Others in our organisation have experienced similar issues and have commented about it.

Cheers
Marty

I cant comment to suggest it would have been pulled as I don't know for sure.
possible reason could be that RIM published it on the site before Telecom had approved it to be there.
