Hi folks, I just bought one from Expert Infotech and the phone turned out to be Portuguese - at least I think that's what the language is. All the written material in the package are in Portuguese, which is fine by me since I can download English material.

Unfortunately the phone keyboard has one foreign key in it - it's a comma key on my partner's NZ new phone. On mine it's a C with a comma hanging off the bottom. I can't seem to type a comma either! What's the way around it? Do I need to get a firmware that's in English?

D'oh!! Turned out the comma key is jammed in together with colon and period - hmm...that sentence sounded weird...

Anyway, I can now type a comma but have to use the shift key as well. Ah well, the price to pay for cheaper parallel imported phone. Now let's see if I can work out all the connections settings...

No, you shouldn't pay "any price" / be disadvantaged from a parllel imported phone.

Let me just say I have had really bad experiences with Expert Infotech and so has my friend. What they state on their website or what they say to you is different to what you get.

You should get a refund off them unless they told you that you were getting a Portuguese phone from day 1.

Parallel imported phones are fine... it's the retailer that is the problem.

+1 I got burned by these hopeless clowns recently as well - I should have googled the name prior to purchasing and read all the warnings.

As much of an ordeal as it will likely be - you really should return it, your quite entitled to.

Right...after spending a bit more time playing with it I discovered the firmware is littered with Brazilian content - that got too much for me. I rang them and they sounded surprised (which in itself is odd) - apparently they didn't realise the entire batch that arrived are all Brazilian phones! I have sent the phone back and they will replace it with a more appropriate one.

If you had been stuck with the phone, you could easily change the product code using the usb cable and some software, and use the nokia software updater to flash a more generic firmware, say EURO1 and have the same layout as your partner's phone, just the key would be printed differently. I have seen a few good chinese websites though selling decent replacement key mats - otherwise you could possibly buy 1 from Nokia Care?? I'm not sure.

Aye, I agree - if I had ordered a Portuguese phone made for Brazil then I'm stuck with it. As it stands there was no mention of it on their website and it's fair to expect a phone that's designed for an English speaking country, which NZ happens to be one!

UPDATE:
Right...they originally agreed to refund me the phone and return shipping charges. Unfortunately the agreement was verbal over the phone.
As a result, I got the cost of the phone but not the return shipping of $7.50! Meh...quite frankly I can't be bothered dealing with this bunch of condescending muppets! I consider it a lesson learned - if anyone even entertain the idea of browsing their website please take my, and plenty others, advise now - STOP!! Don't even bother and waste your time and bandwidth!
