I installed the official ROM yesterday, numerous times, but have been unable to successfully get the GPS working.
Once flashed, i downloaded google maps, then clicked 'used GPS', but it continuously times out without fixing on any satelites. Am i doing something wrong?

Have you gone to Start -> Settings -> Phone -> Services and enabled "Location Setting"?

Yes.

I've since installed GPS viewer, which finds the GPS on com4, and tries to lock onto satellite, but fails. Have left it trying for an hour without a single lock.

I have a Telecom HTC Titan flashed to WM6.1 with GPS.

I also use GPS Viewer to prime my GPS and it works a treat. I dont know too much about the Okta/HTC Touch though. Have you tried different locations when looking for sats?

Hopefully you do get it going soon! Hopefully others who have flashed the official update can step in and give you a hand.

Does the phone have a clear view of a large proportion of the sky and preferably the horizon? Mine takes up to 5 minutes to get the first position, but after that, it is quite tolerant and continues to update its position in places that it would never get its initial position.

Mine works. I followed all the steps in the other posts. Took 2 to 3 minutes to lock in the satellites.

For some reason when i click reply in this thread it tries to reply to iris browser so i had to put the topicid in manually =/

Anyway, I'm using AstroGPSLauncher to start up both tomtom and iGo. The issue is, when i simply start up tomtom from a fresh reset it finds 2-3 satellites max and says poor reception.

But when i use the same launcher to launch iGo (which i dont want to use, i'd prefer tomtom), it locks very very fast (doesnt work without the launcher). Once ive opened the program, and exited it, now tomtom also locks instantly and even works indoors in some places.

Google maps will do the same thing (kinda like priming it) but doesn't need the launcher, once thats been run tomtom also works fine.

Its rather annoying, any guesses?

Can someone recommend a GPS util that will at least let me know if the GPS is working properly?

I have an Okta Touch (upgraded to WM6.1 using Official Telecom ROM).  I tried the Holux GPS Viewer V1.5... but when I clicked scan I get the following:

Scan COM1...(Open Failed)
Scan COM2...(Open Failed)
Scan COM3...(Open Failed)
Scan COM4...(Open Failed)
Scan COM5...(Open Failed)
Scan COM6...(Open Failed)
Scan COM7...(None)
Scan COM8...(Open Failed)
Scan COM9...(Open Failed)
Scan COM10...(Open Failed)
Scan COM11...(Open Failed)
Scan completed!

If I select any COM port (other than 7) and then click 'Open GPS' I get 'Can not open COMPORT'...

If I select COM7 and click 'Open GPS' I get 'GPS Open...'.. However it does not seem to find any satellites... there is nothing displayed on the 'GPS Status' screen after 10-15minutes...

I think the GPS works ok, because when I used Googlemaps... it displayed the 'Seeking GPS Satellites (0)'... and then 'Active (4)' etc... and seemed to locate me at my house (I'm sure the data to download the map showing me in my backyard is going to cost!Money mouth)

Any ideas for any alternative tools I can try to confirm the GPS hardware is actually working properly??

regards,
HCP

^ Try GPSed or WMMiniGPS. Both are freeware and pull a lot of info from your GPS receiver.

Thanks for the tips...

As it turns out... I somehow managed to miss the "External GPS" settings (Settings/System) page that lets you specify the COM port that Windows will make available to applications (which I assume do not use a GID) to communicate with the GPS device.

By setting this to, say, COM4... the GPS Viewer was then able to scan and detect the GPS on COM4... and when I clicked 'Open GPS'... I could see thousands of NMEA GPS 'Sentences' scrolling up the text window at a frantic pace...

Suffice to say that I am now all GPS'd up and am experimenting with various GPS apps to see what I can and cannot do... so far Garmin Mobile XT looks pretty good for car nav, and OziExplorer and my scanned aeronautical charts look perfect for my aviation-related activities.

hi... i've played with this okta gps puppy fer a while now & had a lot of fun...1st up i didnt save the hd auth#'s so lost the ability to connect to rev a...neva mind....didn't really need it...tried a couple of rom's & managed to get gps working tho it seemed very fickle to the point of frustration as well as a few other unexpected changes...i came very close to biffing my precious into the creek several times...

 telecoms 6.1 has fixed the unwanted changes from the other roms & gps works albeit at this point slow to get a fix... i have got myself a new okta with 6.1 pre-loaded & i have made the following registry edits & prog instals that seem to give very quik sat locks & accurate positioning...

  1. garmin mobile xt

  2. holux gps viewer (jus to chek that gps is in fact operating)

  3. vogue gps drivers

  4. gpskickstart.exe

  5. regedits
     HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\
    Drivers\GpsOneDevice\PollInterval -> 100 (default is 1000)
    Drivers\InputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
    Drivers\OutputBufferSize -> 512 (default is 4096)
    Drivers\SleepOnNoData -> 100 (default is 1000)
    Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize -> 512

i'm now going outside to find where i am...Smile

Does the upgrade restore the HDR AN AUTH LONG password?

hi...nah i don't think it does...i'll need to bak trak again to find out how to get into the edit mode to chek...even if i do get in there's no way for me to know if the hd auth# is correct as i'm not sure of the state i left it in when i was there last...also the fone is disconnected from the telecom network...its no longer a smartfone..its jus smart...Cool

i think the only way to get the #s is by sending ur puppy to telegistix...

btw... i took my new precious out on a ride this arvo & it worked a treat...no longer losing sat lok when fone goes into standby & when it does loose the signals for what eva reason it picks them up again quikly...it ate the amps on the full battery for the 2hr ride...however i had the mp3 cranked up which has a fairly healthy appetite on its own...

Any chance you can specify exactly which links you used to get the drivers etc?

I did a google search on 'vogue gps drivers'... and found a link on PPCGeeks (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=25407)

However, after installing the .cab I found there that supposedly installed the drivers and the kickstart and making the reg changes you specified (FYI, I had no 'Multiplexer/MaxBufferSize' key???), my GPS just stopped working...ie. Efficasoft GPS Viewer could no longer detect GPS on COM1 and Garmin XT failed to find any GPS device.

Uninstalled the .cab and everything appears to be working OK again...

On a side note, does anyone know if the A-GPS functionality works here in NZ?
