I've been trying to get google sync working with my Touch HD.  I want to synchronise it with google apps.  Has anyone done this before?  I have enabled google sync on my google apps dashboard.  

Following the advice on google support hasn't been successful (and the screen shots look like WM5).  I have noted that others have had similar problems but I have been unable to find a solution for it that works.

Does anyone have any ideas?

NOTE: I did this with an OKTA Touch... YMMV


Firstly, I didn't even realise I could sync my google contacts onto my WM device... so thanks for the headsup...

As for the syncing itself... it seems to work ok... my OKTA Touch is running WM6.1... The link you gave to the Google Help is not 100% the same as the screens I have, but it was pretty close. 

I did the following:

- opened ActiveSync on the device (Note:  It appears that you cannot create a server if the device is already connected, so make sure your cable is not plugged in and/or you are not connected via bluetooth/wireless etc)
- Menu -> Configure Server
- It asked for an email address so I put in
- I unticked the checkbox that said something like "Try and get Exchange Server Settings Automatically"
- Clicked Next
- Put in the server address box and made sure the SSL checkbox was ticked
- Clicked Next
- Entered my FULL email address in the username field ie. (note, the 'domain' box was automatically greyed out when I entered the @ symbol in the username field)
- Entered my password
- Made sure the save password checkbox was ticked
- Clicked Next
- Checked 'Contacts' (I personally didn't want the calendar at this point... as I was only testing)
- Clicked Finish

Then I just connected my usb cable and went 'Sync'... it updated the PC contacts... and then started downloading the contacts from Gmail...

Perhaps you just put "myaddress" in the username instead of ""?

Anyway, I hope this helps in some way...


ps. just noticed you mentioned GoogleApps... Trust you noticed this at the bottom of that page (hence your comment that you enabled it on the dashboard):

"Tip: If your business, school, or organization uses Google Apps, your administrator will first need to enable ActiveSync before you can take advantage of this feature."

So you are the GoogleApps Admin? and it has been enabled on your domain?

Thanks HCP.  Yes I am using Google Apps, not gmail.  I would expect it to work as easily as it did for you using gmail but I am having trouble syncing with gapps.

I am the administrator of the domain and I did exactly as google instructed in enabling google sync for my domain.  So if you or anyone else succeeded in getting this to work I'd appreciate knowing how Smile.

What error message are you getting?

I've had problems with Google Sync too and after some investigation, figured out it was due to some 'invalid' contact data. (Possibly a badly formated name or something). Anyways, I exported all my phone contacts using PIM Backup, and restored it again using PIM Backup, making sure to select the option 'Delete all contacts before inserting'. After that, I deleted all server relationships and re-added it again. Works like a charm!

Now if I can only figure out how to avoid duplication of calendar entries..
