Re: I have included a lengthy description of various problems I have been experiencing with my Kyocera 7135. I have mentioned several of the things I have attempted to remedy the various issues I’ve had with the phone, and I have also tried to use many of the solutions suggested via the Kyocera Wireless website’s troubleshooting database, but have had no luck. I think my main problems might be that I need to replace the battery contacts in the phone and possibly the data port connector (or some other part associated with the Hot Sync feature that is currently preventing me from being able to Hot Sync).
There are some suggestions from the Kyocera’s troubleshooting database that I have not attempted, because I’d like advice on narrowing down what would be the best troubleshooting technique(s) to attempt first.
I would greatly appreciate your assistance with any suggestions as to what I might try to do to rectify these problems, MYSELF, BEFORE mailing the phone out for repair. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter, and any assistance you might be able to provide.
For about the last 6 months, I have been experiencing the same two problems. 1:Sometimes when I'd remove the phone from the cradle, the phone would shut off and I would have to either remove the battery or reset the phone, in order to get it to power up again. Then, all would be fine for a week or two, and then removing it from the charger would cause it to die again. 2: Using the Cig charger would cause the phone display to blink off and on, and continually reset itself back to the "Setup Screen". The first charger I tried was manufactured by Kyocera, and when I started experiencing problems with it, I purchased another charger, manufactured by a different company. Use of both Cig Chargers have led to the exact same problems. And they both seemed to "artificially charge" the phone. I would have "full bars", talk for 20 minutes and get a low battery warning. Also, I had problems from time to time with the Hot Sync feature not wanting to initiate, no matter whether I started initiation from the phone's hot sync window or pressed the hot sync button on the cradle.
ALL THIS TO SAY, the other day, my phone fell in the toilet, and is now experiencing the same problems as I've just mentioned, along with a few other problems. I took the phone almost entirely apart, including the LED screen, which I'd like to know if I can just purchase direct (from Kyocera or another company) the sticky paper (looks like a Polaroid picture) the adheres to the back of the LED, as it got some debris on it and now my screen looks a little grungy. Or do I have to purchase the entire LED?
I cleaned all the parts thoroughly, there was a nice droplet of water trapped inside the LED, but for the most part, the rest of the parts were dry with little corrosion. I did notice on the back of the "keymat”, some of the “silver circular areas” that corresponded to the face of the keymat had a bit of corrosion. The corrosion occurred on the following buttons: "ok and Up/down, #'s, zero, Red/Off. However, the phone seemed to work perfectly with a few exceptions: 1. I sometimes have to push the red/off button either a few times, or really hard in order to turn phone off/on. My biggest problem now is that whenever I remove the phone from the cradle, it dies. Same thing happens when removed from Cig Charger (when plugged into the Cig Charger, I have the same problems as I listed earlier).
Seems like there is possibly a problem with the battery contacts?? Or the battery could be bad, I’ve had it for as long as I've had the phone. However, I just ordered a new battery, which I also included, which turned out to be one of those w/ number ending in "05" that's been RECALLED! *** I did attempt to use it in my phone before phone was dropped in water, not sure if that caused any problems. Do you know if it's legal for company's to sell that battery to customers? Phone will power up and works just fine as long as it's in the cradle. Hot Sync, however, will not happen since the toilet encounter. I’ve tried different combinations, using serial/USB ports, computer vs. phone to initiate hot sync, and won't work. At one point while attempting to hsync, I got an error message that read: "Preferences.c, line:186 Pref DB open Error", another time I got "MemoryMgr.c,line 5281 Chunk under-locked”.
Also, I lost one of the four miniscule screws that locks the back of phone up tight. It's closed pretty darn tightly with the (3) screws I have in there, but maybe not quite tight enough to allow a HSync operation??? I DON'T KNOW. If it's as simple as me buying (1) of those little screws, a new battery contact, and the "sticky Polaroid paper" for the led, is it possible for me to buy those parts directly from someone and install myself?.
I would be amazed and grateful if someone could either tell me what to do (or do the necessary repairs to make) this thing to just hot sync, charged properly, and not lose all it's memory every time it decided to shut itself off. These problems have been going on for quite some time now (way before phone was dropped in toilet), and I’ve just learned to live with it and work around the issues, BUT I’D LIKE TO NOT HAVE TO DO THAT ANYMORE.
Here's a bit more info for you, because I want to describe EVERYTHING that has gone awry so that it EVERYTHING can be completely fixed if possible. With the cradle connected to serial port, when I placed the phone on the cradle (to power up), the phone would make loud beeping noises and either would not turn on or the screen would be brown (red light flashing); when connected cradle to USB port, the phone would power up as usual, but would not connect with Hot Sync. So once, I got phone powered up (via cradle conn. to USB), I tried then plugging into the serial port (unplug USB) and hot syncing... phone would begin connection to Hsync and backing up data, and then would cancel the HSync process about 15 seconds into it. Also, I just discovered when I place my spare battery in the extra battery charger slot on the cradle and then place my phone (w/ other battery inside the phone) on the cradle, the phone tries to start up, but again reverts to loud beeping and a brown screen.
Also, when phone is plugged into Cig Charger, phone will power on a show the green light; but when I enter in a phone number and hit the green button to send it/or hit “send” when trying to send out a text message, in both instances the LED screen will start flashing and the red light will start flashing and the phone resets itself back to the “Setup Screen” and erases the memory. However, when the phone is plugged into the cradle or the standard charger, I am able to make phone calls and send text messages with no problems. Which makes me think that all is well with cradle, with the exception of not being able to hot sync, and that one, some, or all of my problems lie with the Cig Charger and/or the phone. I also lost one of the little plastic silver pieces that encases the four battery contacts on one of the internal parts on the phone (i.e. the silver plastic piece that prevents the battery contacts from getting pushed down too far and losing contact with the battery’s battery contacts, when the battery is installed). Could replacing this little piece be the solution to any/all of my problems? I did not lose this piece until after the water damage occurred and I took the phone apart, and still had several problems with the phone which were mentioned at the beginning of this letter.
I would like to know if you are able to email any suggestions for me to try to remedy these problems before I ship it out for repair. I've already tried several things found on the Kyocera and Pca.com troubleshooting sites, but no luck. If you could email ASAP (or call and leave message), that would be wonderful. If you can not email or call me with any suggestions, please tell me which company you think might be best to try and ship the phone to that will be able to take a look at , diagnose, repair all problems, and ship back to me in a day... or two, or three or ASAP. I appreciate your assistance and apologize if this has been very lengthy. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ASSISTANCE, LISCO.
