You can get your location, Points of interest relative to your location, search for an address, set up a route and preview it......

I have used both and have found Google maps surperior to Nokia Maps (without Sub). While I thought Nokia maps with turn by turn navigation was OK I would never use it enough to justify the fee. Generally I know where I am going.

The biggest difference between both is that Google Maps uses data continually while it's running. Nokia Maps doesn't once you have the maps loaded on your device.

Both with use some data however upon started if you have A-GPS enabled on your phone.

The new V3.0 Ovi Maps is also very cool as you can view maps on your web browser and then automatically sync locations of interest etc with your handset.

Another option is to buy Garmin XT software for mobiles and use the FREE NZ maps at

The POI's are loaded with the map data so are already on the handset memory when you transfer them to your phone.

I actually think its offensive that you have to pay a monthly subscription for a connectionless service.

You've already paid a large sum of money for the phone, and to pay monthly to have your phone to tell you which way to go...

Its like buying a bike, and then having to pay to ride it!

I'm assuming you also think phone calls, data and SMS's should be free? Exact same logic..

Its a service thats constantly updated and improved on, I find it rubbish that people expect everything to be free these days.

No, its not the exact same logic, hence why I said it is a 'connectionless' service. You do not connect to Nokia in order for the turn by turn navigation. You are not using any sort of provided service what-so-ever. You are using software that is already IN your phone and needs to be activated on a monthly basis.

If you want to compare logic, its as if you have to pay a month fee to use Windows, or it'll deactivate.

And Mr Chef. Would you be whistling the same tune if you bought a Garmin GPS and then found that you had to pay a monthly subscription for its navigation system?
As for it being a 'service', I don't ever recall needing to be connected in order to use it. You download the NZ map, and that is all you need. No further 'service' connection to Nokia for information required.

Gentlemen, like most people, I don't prefer to continually pay for software for which have already paid once for.

You have paid for the basic functionality in the purchase price of the handset, you haven't paid for the voice guidance functionality.
