Having failed to make my HP 1940 link with the Nokia 6230 - apparently due to unit keys (ipaq) not matching combination keys (Nokia) - I need to l0ok for another ipaq. A friend has a ipaq 4150 and he can get the two to talk to each other. Are there other models of ipaq quited for paring with the Nokia?
Thnak you

Hi there,

Do you any more information on why your 6230 and HP 1940 won't work together? I am have downloaded the suggested patch, but I'm having problems accessing the internet even though they both pair and connect successfully. Do you know anything that may help?

Cheers,

Ben

Here are some emails i have recived on the subject. hope they help you

I went to the hp uk website, to drivers and software, put in my model of ipaq and it is the security Bluetooth driver I downloaded, as I said my ipaq showed it was already on as a 1940-2200 bt fix but I overwrote it and it paired up immediately. Let me know.

Actually I downloaded a fix/update/patch from hp website which actually worked for the nokia 6230 and hp 1940. My ipaq said it already had it and did I want to download over it. I did and it worked.

Found this information as it seems the 1940 / 6230 is a common problem. The fix on the download link at the end of this is a Beta fix and you may or may not want to install it. If you are unsure, I suggest you think of a different phone from O2.

Issues reported with Nokia 6820 and 6230 phones when attempting to pair with the IPAQ 1940 or 2210 PDA.

Alert!

In line with WIDCOMM’s policy of providing the most up-to-date information to our customers, we are providing the following information.

Having problems performing pairing with an iPaq 1940/2210 PDA and a Nokia 6820 Phone and you continually get an error similar to “Cannot pair devices for security reasons”?

This is a Hardware issue and not a software issue related to the WIDCOMM BTW-CE Product. The reason for this problem is as follows:

There are two types of keys that can be used for pairing:
- Combination keys
- Unit keys

The key type that is used is pre-set in the Bluetooth Radio Firmware. The WIDCOMM BTW-CE Bluetooth software does not control this setting. The radio on the iPaq 1940 uses unit keys by default. The Nokia 6820 phone rejects the use of unit keys in pairing because it is not as secure as combination keys.

This issue has been reported with Nokia 6820 and 6230 phones when attempting to pair with the iPaq 1940 or 2210 PDA.

Update (04/21/2004): Good friends have found and have sent me a Unofficial beta patch that fix this problem in 221x and h194x (check reports at these forums Expansys and BrightHand). I'm posting the this patch here but be aware that this is a beta patch so you are responsible for anything that could happen to your iPaq. Download.

Click on download of you want to save the file to your hard disc.
