I've been at this for months... I've been trying to get online by attaching my Clie NX80 and Motorola V551 using a cable from Gomadic. They suggested I try adding Cingular's software, but it wants an older OS. I've googled and tried instructions from nice folks on ClieSource (now 1rsc)

Phillip from Cingular was very helpful, although we couldn't quite get it to connect. The best we got was several different permutations that got to "signing on" and initializing", but it wouldn't make the final connection. We also tried restarting the phone a couple of times.

Preferences: Connection
Connect to : Local Network
Via : Cradle/Cable
Speed 115,200 bps
Flow Ctl: Automatic

Preferences: Network
User Name: WAP.CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Connection Type : PPP
Icle Timeout : Never
Query DNS
IP: Automatic

Script:

Send:ATZ
Send CR:
Send:&f&d2&c1+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.cingular"
Send CR:
Send:ATD*99***1#
Send CR:
Wait For:CONNECT
End

Switching to a "3" in the second and 4th send lines only means it doesn't time out, but keeps bouncing forever.

I also tried adding the CLIENT and CLIENTSERVER lines mentioned elsewhere in this forum at the end of the string, but then I didn't get the "signing on" and initializing" bounce at all.

Any thoughts on this one?

Thanks in advance,

Cat

Cat, as a first experiment, try this script instead (the bold is to highligh important things):

Send:ATZ;+CGDCONT=1,"","wap.cingular"
Send CR:
Send:ATDT*99***1#
Send CR:
Wait For:CONNECT

Also, check this guide. Note that I don't use the script at all. Instead you can use the Palm OS to dial and send the Init string to your phone. In this case simply enter Z;+CGDCONT=1,"","wap.cingular" on the Init String, and of course use Cingular's user name and password (if any):

Tried the first one and got the bounce, which is a good sign, but it wouldn't actually connect.

Had already tried something very similar to the second one, based on an iPaq posting, so tried yours, but that never even got to the bounce.

With your guide, you are already connected to the phone via Bluetooth, I am not. I am trying to get my hands on the Sony BT memory stick, but it's gonna be expensive. Darn Sony for abandoing it's loyal users...

Any other thoughts? I'd hate to think I bought this cable and did all this work only to have it never connect. (Not too happy with Motorola or Palm at the moment, either.)

Thanks so much for your very prompt help.

The fact that it is a Bluetooth connection or a cable connection should not impact on the results - they are all connections. You could have to test the cable though - are you sure it's not faulty?

Check the guide again, and make sure the configuration in your case is correctly selecting a serial connection to a mobile phone.

I've thought of that. I know 2/3 of it worked with my old Siemens S46 phone, the cable is modular. Well, it's probably a moot point as I just won an auction for a BT card on eBay. Pretty penny too... Still, it's frustrating to not be able to make this work. How would I test it?
