The replacement for the best phone ever, the E71, has now been announced.

Official Nokia page

I would like a black one please - at least it gives me a few months to choose between Vodafone and Telecom (I doubt it will support both 850MHz and 900MHz 3G but you never know!)

It won't support both those bands within the same handset.

Certainly a VERY sexy device.

Nice specs! Including a 3.5mm headphone jack and 5MP camera just for starters. I better start saving up.

Nice update, very nice handset (providing you can stand its terrible screen resolution).

This would have been my choice earlier the year if E71 had 2.5mm, instead I ended up with Palm Treo Pro - which is still great.

Not shipping anywhere until August / September so based on history maybe by Xmas - hopefully the fact VF has competition now will speed that up.

Specs up on the Nokia Europe site here.

More detailed specs on the Nokia Developers site here.

Points to note compared to the E71 are:
micro-USB charging - finally (still has 2.0mm DC socket too)
3.5mm headphone socket - again finally
250MB free user disk space (plus microSD)
HSDPA 10.2Mbps down
HSUPA 2Mbps up
Compass
5MP camera
S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2
Firmware update over the air
Accelerometer
600MHz CPU up from 369MHz
640x480 video
Nokia VOIP 3.0
Longer battery life from the same battery

Overall, quite a few nice improvements over the E71 (which is already a brilliant phone)

Why did they have to do that to the k/b, they should've just used the Fn key with the existing keys for more punctuation like the good ol e61. fp2 will be smoking with that speed processor.

I assume you are referring to the short space bar? Meh, no biggie for me, I quite like it.

I also quite like the "torch" function (it will be better than using the screen which I use now sometimes) and the bluetooth key will be great too . . .

They keyboard changes are a little different. Certainly like the torch function.

Scottpalmer: You've always been able to turn BT on/off on the E71 by holding down the * key ;)

You learn something every day. It will be nice to have an icon on the keyboard to remind me of that fact :-)

All recent E Series devices allow the following long key presses

* - BT On/Off
# - Switch between Silent and General Profile (this is true on all Nokia Handsets)
0 - Launch the Internet Browser/Bookmarks

These keypresses work on the likes of the E71 which don't have the dedicated numberpad keys also.

they are fp1 shortcuts.

I use an app to use the flash of the camera as a torch, when required. (very rarely)

And if you hold the Home key, it will open like a mini task manager thingy where you can navigate open programs.

cool. # works for silent mode on my n95 but * doesn't work for BT doesn't.

IS there a shortcut key for BT on N95?
