got my E75 last week.  Absolutely love it.  But.....

the battery life is short. Very short.

Any top tips for improving it. Some hidden features that save power or should be turned off?

So far I have:

Ensured Bluetooth is off
Wurned off WLAN scanning

What else can I do?  (does active sync drain battery a lot?)

Yes! And it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference if you have it always on or every 15 min or every hour... number one issue I have with this phone. I have had to resort to charging during the day, which is ridiculous (I can live with every night). Otherwise mine says goodbye at about 3-5pm.

oh well.. It doesn't bother me too much since I have a charger at home and at work, so I basically keep it on charge the whole time.

If I go on holiday though I'll probably just turn syncing off altogether (don;t want to be getting hassled by work emails anyway :P  )

Also try locking the handset to UMTS or GSM. This will stop the handset fighting between staying on each when in fringe coverage.

This is assuming you are on Vodafone, if you're on XT this won't be an issue.

Also ensure you have the latest firmware for your handset.

Yeah already GSM only. And the firmware is the latest released for NZ (although a later one is available in Europe) Frown

What do you mean by 'short'? Does it last a day or is the battery flat before the end of a day. Most smartphones that I've used recently do well to last a day. If I can charge my phone overnight and have it last until bed time, then I'm happy.

Well the same usage with 5800XM and E71 gives me at least a whole day and two if lucky. E75 gives up before getting home on the first day...

How much talk time? I have taken to charging mine every night but I will last a day and a half on a charge with normal use (<1 hour talking per day)

Probably about an hour or so I guess. Also listen to music in the car (via bluetooth). And have Mail for Exchange running all the time.
