Hey all,

Today I found a new VoIP/SIP application for WM5/6! It's called PortSIP (only been around for ~3months)

General info: http://oldsap.blogspot.com/2009/04/portsip.html

Official website: http://www.portsip.com/

Support/Suggestion/Advice forum (which the developer(s) actively read/respond to): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508715

I've used it with 2talk and the quality is fantastic.

What I really like is that PortSIP connects directly to 2talk (or what ever sip provider), portSIP doesn't connect to a central server in the USA/UK like fring does (which adds ~400ms!).

The UI is really basic, but it does the job. The developer(s) are also constantly adding new features.

I've only used it on my home wifi connection for now, I'll try it on 3g (vodafone) this afternoon.

Hopefully some of you will find it useful Laughing

I have been using it for couple of months. The "earphone" function does not works nicely on all models of phones. For my Touch PRO 2, I also have to use audioRoute software along with portsip to get the audio out from the earphone rather than the default speakerphones that portsip is set to.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Tried this some time ago on my Touch Diamond.

1) Doesn't seem to use WiFi connection. "Registration failed"

2) Doesn't seem to initiate a data connection (GPRS/3G). "Registration failed"

I had to manually connect to the ISP to be able to get it to register. But that's about it. Tried making a few calls, they connected but all I got was noise. Messed around with the codecs but it was of no use. Speaking of which, there's no G.726 (32 kbps) option so that sucks.

--

Also tried Talkonaut, but it doesn't connect *at all*, whether WiFi, GPRS or PC.

Fring works, but the call quality is very poor, even when connected via WiFi. Also, it appears that there's no option to choose the codec. :(

Guess I'll continue my hunt for a decent SIP client for WinMo..

Portsip works fine for me. Wifi and 3G both register with my SIP providers fine. Try and download the latest version from portsip's website.

I doubt the author is actively developing this app.

Well it still doesn't change the fact that I can't use it on my Touch Diamond. :/

I dunno, I don't have the source code nor the patience to debug it. :/

Looks like nothing beats for sticking with my old Skype for PPC beta version with my Jasjam.

My gadgets:
NEC Versa S3200 Laptop running Linux Mint 9 and Win XP

3x I-mate Jasjam, one running WM6.1 and others WM5.1, all working with VF and Telecom XT
Canon Powershot SX120 Digital camera
Various old phones like Nokia 6310, Nokia 6610 and ancient Nokia 1610, all with carkits.
Greenspeed Gto recumbent trike with Rohloff 14 speed Speedhub, altogether 42 speed.
No TV, no microwave and no washing machine. ( Not enough space in my van for those) I live a mobile lifestyle, call me nomad if you wish but gypsy I am not.
Have started my epic journey from Bluff to Cape Reinga on my recumbent trike supported with my van so I can carry all my gadgets with me and sleep in a comfy bed.

That's fine if you want to be stuck in the Skype world but no good if you want SIP!
