Hey there,

I just bought a second hand HTC Touch Dual from Australia, and I can't seem to get it to find any network here in Auckland. I've tried several vodafone sims (pre-pay and on contract), soft-reset the phone, turned it on and off, checked it's not in flight mode and tried all combinations of network settings, and still it either says "Searching" or "No Service".

I'd like to believe the people I bought it off, who said the phone was working, so being optimistic for the mean time, is there anything else anyone could suggest I try?

Thanks,

Helen

tried an XT sim card instead of Vodafone? it might be only able to connect to the XT Frequencies, since in NZ the HTC Touch is a CDMA network only.. thoughts?

Sounds to me like the phone is locked to whatever network it was being used on in Australia. Not sure how you get it unlocked though - someone else here can possibly point you in the right direction.

gtxboyracer - the XT network is not CDMA

I know that, but the phone requires a SIM card, and the only HTC Touch we have officially in NZ is CDMA. My point is, that the HTC is probably going to want frequencies that Telecom use, so go figure.. (SIM + Telecom = XT).

LOL - interesting deduction! Nope - this phone CAN work on Vodafone but would appear to be locked to the original network it was being used on in Australia

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your ideas, the phone is unlocked, it turns out it was a hardware fault after all. That'll teach me for buying off ebay :P Works now with a vodafone sim. Now I'm having some fun trying to port Android onto it!

Thanks,

Helen

the only way to unlock would be 1, hack it..(re-flash it) or 2, contact all the service providers in AUS and request the Unlock code to release the mobile from the Network..

Edit/ Good to hear you got it working. :) My co-worker has the CDMA version of the HTC Touch (or Okta Touch) and running Android on it.. :) looks interesting...
