Recently, I have bought a imate pda2k. it came with a 32MB SD card. i have not inserted this card into pda2k yet. however, if i go to settings>memory>storage card, it shows total free memory: 43MB.

However, i dont think i have inserted any storage card in the pda2k. so what does 'free memory: 43MB' represent.

regards

The PDA2k, like some other Pocket PC models, come with flash ROM where the OS and other utilities are installed. But because not all this memory is used, the manufacturers allow users to place files and programs in this storage.

This is a flash memory, meaning that files stored there will survive a hard reset or battery faults.

I use the memory on my devices to store programs - this way there is more main memory free for programs to use when running.

thanks
i have a soem follow up questions:

if i go to settings>memory>main, it shows:
total free memory - 128MB,
Storage allocated- 62MB
Program allocated- 62MB

(1) Does this mean that the total memory I have on my PDA2K is: 128MB + 43MB(internal storage card) + 32MB(external storage card)

(2) Everytime I create a file on PDA2K, its stored under Main memory, unless I save it to Storage card??

(3) If my PDA2K goes off for some reasons, all the files stored in main memory are deleted???

(4) Where it says: Program allocated- 62MB - does this mean, I can INSTALL upto 62MB programs OR does it mean i can RUN programs requiring upto 62MB memory?

Look forward to hearing from u
Thanks

These are the numbers for each memory type, but they're not seem as one single memory. So if a file does not fit in the main memory then you have place the entire file in another memory.

Correct.

Yes. But there's an internal backup battery on this model that will keep the memory alive for a while, until you recharge the main battery or replace it. Anything on SD card or flash memory will survive - but most of the times you'd have to reinstall applications even if the program files are still in the SD card because some need information stored on the registry - and this information is gone once the device is hard reset or the battery dies.

You can run programs up to this much memory. The Windows Mobile OS will manage the memory in use, and in some cases close programs when more memory is needed. That's why is always good to install large files and applications on an external card or flash memory.
