we lost all our data and new installed programs on harrier when swapping batteries, the backup battery was at 100% charged. has this happened to anyone else? and is there a way of stopping it happening, this severly limits the use of the harrier if everytime you swap batteries, you lose all your prrograms and settings etc

No, you shouldn't have lost your data. Could be a problem with the backup battery or the device itself.

im pretty sure you have to switch the harrier off (just the pda part, using the power button on the top of the device), before you take the battery off.

My decrepit memory tells me its a known fault, and the updated rom may fix this issue.

You could run xBackup first if you wish to test this theory without risk.
