Hi there
i currently own Nokia E75 and managed to get GarminXT v5.00.20 working on my phone i.e. signal indicator shows green bars.

I read in a earlier posts that to get accurate POi you need to update your maps. so how do i update maps? i have been following Garmin XT - just a final touch up but could not fully understand.

can somebody help me please?

If you go to nzopengps.org and download the img file from there (grab the last one Cross-Platform (Windows / Mac / Linux etc) gmapsupp.img). Pop it in the garmin folder on the phone and off you go!

These are free maps updated weekly by a bunch of kiwis. Works great with Garmin XT.

Sorry, I can't find a way in the Garmin XT software to show the date of the mapsets. It has never really bothered me as the NZ open maps are very up to date.

hi
would anyone know why my garmin would stop getting any signal all of a sudden. there is no green bars.

You're not doing something silly like trying to get signal inside a building or anything are you? My N82 won't get signal in a building or in some narrow streets no matter how long i wait.

no i have tried it outside. i dont get anything more than a red bar.

i have started to think it may be faulty GPS Chip. but if it was faulty it wouldnt gps devices rite?. is there a way i can be sure of this?

You got the apn set right for agps? got a valid server in it as well? without those you are in for a long wait getting a fix on a nokia phone since they were too cheap to spring for a proper gps chipset with an almanac

Its in the connections menu on the ones I have looked at. Positioning lets you choose several methods. In settings for assistad GPS you need to choose which APN it uses to go on the internet, and the server that it connects to which is usually supl.nokia.com - without that you are cold fixing all the time which is really slow on the shoddy reception that the nokias seem to give. Talking 20 mins on a windowsill type long.

positioning server use: auto. in home network
access point: VF NZ Internet
server address: supl.nokia.com

i set these values and gps is showing green bars.

this means everytime i want use garmin xt, for quick sattelite fixing it will use internet, but once its fixed it will not use internet?

and how much data is used everytime i do this?.

only a few cents worth on prepaid data, its not massive.

It should only do it when you first start to use GPS, once its got a lock even if it loses it from going inside, it will not need to reget the data unless you close maps and reopen it. I was always closing it tho because it would blast out "LOST SATELLITE RECEPTION" non stop if you left it open.
