When docked to my desktop, ActiveSync regularly disconnects itself from the device. I have to switch the AXIm off/on to re-establish the connection and get it to sync. I've checked the Options and Sync Continuously when connected is On.
On the other hand, when the AXIM is connected by USB Sync cable to my laptop, ActiveSync works remains connected, albeit that is an earlier version (3.7?).
Is this an unusual problem?

Could it be the USB power management?

On your computer open the Device Manager (Windows Key+Break) and check the USB list. For each USB Root HUB you have to check the Power Management option. There is a checkbox that allows the system to turn the USB on/off to save power.

All the USB Root Hubs found on the desktop has Power Management turned off, i.e. does not allow the pc to turn off the device to save power.
Some months back when i installed my Belkin 7-port USB hub, the hub had a habit of going to 'sleep' and I had to restart the desktop to gain control of my USB keyboard, mouse. I turned Power Management off then.

Is the cable connected directly to your computer or to the HUB?

These devices do not work well with a BUG, even the powered ones. This week I bought a second USB 2.0 card for my desktop just to avoid this. I now have 9 USB ports in my computer (and a HUB).

The cradle is connected thru the USB 2.0 hub. So is the sync cable on my laptop.
As a test, I should use the sync cable on the desktop and see if the same problem occurs.
I've just bought a cradle to use on the laptop as well but yet to receive it. Be interesting to test that out.

ActiveSync'd the AXIM using the sync cable instead of the cradle on my desktop and it hasn't disconnected yet. Been running for oever 30 minutes. That is contrary to when I sync with the cradle, when it disconnects about a minute, if not sooner, after docking. Both the sync cable and cradle are connected to a Belkin 7-port hub.
The mystery continues.

It looks like the cradle may be at fault there then...
