Hi,

MY ADVICE TO YOU:
DONT BUY A QTEC 8020 SMARTPHONE
DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM EXPANSYS

I dont know how many of you out there have dealt with EXPANSYS through their online site. I recently purchased a QTEC Smartphone from them, as did a colleague of mine in work.
Within 27 days the my phone ceased working and I called to have it replaced. Expansys will not replace my phone as it is 6 DAYS over their 21 day return policy - THIS IS RIDICULUS. 21 DAYS????
Since then my colleagues phone has developed the EXACT same fault (the joysitck doesnt work) and he is having to return his to.

EXpansys say they will not replace the phone, and that repair will take 4/6 WEEKS.

I can see your frustation but this is how most companies work (different depending on which country they're based, of course): some (most) offer a return period to be used if the product fails or does not meet the description in the box/sales agreement.

After this period, the manufacturer's guarantee is in place - and most manufacturers won't replace a product with a new one. They will send it for repair and return the same product. Only if repair is not possible you receive a new one.

PalmOne in Australia and New Zealand does a similar thing: they will send the user a DHL envelope which can be used to send a PDA for repair. Upon receipt of this PDA, palmOne will send a refurbished unit back to the user. This way the user have a minimum time without the product.

I still have to see a manufacturer sending a new unit before trying to fix the used one.

So, I agree it is frustating, but this is how most companies will work.

that's not my palm one experience.
it's more like a 3 month wait, until they decide the unit cannot be repaired, then they send you a refurbished one.

I have to admit the last time I had a Palm device was four or five years ago. However at that time the unit had a problem and they swap one for another almost instantly.

Of course things change. PalmOne is not a big company, and keeping refurbished units for swap is costly...

back to expansys, they're an australian internet site. i would be very wary - they don't have the same obligations such as consumer guaruntees act.

Most of their products can be ordered through ascent, if you give a full manufacturer name and model.

Expansys is actually an European company. They have Australian/New Zealand, North American, German, French and British websites. They recently bought MobilePlanet.com to expand in the North American market.

the .co.nz site is in aussie dollars, hence my assumption.
still, i doubt they're obligated to adhere to NZ retail law.
