BB users out there, how much BB data do you usually consume in a month and what do you use the data on?

I've just checked my data usage through *333 and it said I've used 1GB of data so far and I'm only on 400mb/month plan! I've mostly been using it for receiving emails from my 2 accounts and replying to some of them, internet browsing, and occassional OTA app downloads. Am I really using too much data or is there something wrong?

Also, I've looked at my TCP/IP settings just now and noticed that the APN Settings isn't enabled. Should I enable this?

I'm pretty sure I haven't sent THAT much emails for it to reach 1GB in a month. Is there a setting or something that I missed? And does it matter if the APN is enabled or not in the TCP/IP settings?

I receive about 5-10 emails per day and constantly use facebook and browse the net as much as I can but I only use up about 20-30 mb per month. Guess I just don't use it enough.

1gb is a huuuuge amount of data to be using

1GB is heaps.. Maybe your not using the Blackberry data service, and its not compressing data?

You are using BIS?

Would it function to that extent without a BIS plan? I was under the impression you needed a BIS plan to use data on a bb.

Maybe something is wrong with the compression side of things

@b0untypure1: they were only the regular BB apps available from different forums so they shouldn't be too large.

@DrNut: I receive about 15-20 emails and send out about 5 per day plus the notifications from social networking sites and messengers so I don't think I've used up that 1GB data in a month. I actually thought I wouldn't reach the 400mb limit. Is it possible to be on BIS but still run under the regular XT data service?

@MikeyPl: I did sign up for the BIS and I'm able to use all the BB services on the phone so I'd like to believe I'm running on BIS but I guess I'll have to clarify that with Telecom.

I've turned off my data service for now (which is sad), and I think I'll have to wait til my monthly bill comes and see how much I get charged. I'm only on my second month being on BB data plan and I was only charged for a week on my first bill from the day I signed up until my monthly bill was due so I'm not really sure how I get billed for this.

You shouldn't be using that kind of data for the usage you descibe, unless your emails contain horrendously large attachments. I'd hit up telecom if I were you, somethings not right.
Zocster should be online soon, he's quite clued up on BB's

I barely use 150 max 180mb. What I suggest is if you list the apps you have installed.personally not into myspace so not sure on their method of pushing. If anything like facebook you can turn notifications off. I will be peefed if I get every single notification when someone kill someone on mafia wars. Even with the new bbm even though it drains the battery it should not drain data. Being a mod for a forum I have to subscribe to all and that is a lot of emails.

So far, I've only got FB, Ubertwitter, YahooMessenger, Tumblr, Windows Live Mssgr, and Google talk. On FB, I only get notifications of someone adds me, replies to my posts or sends me a PM.

None of those should be too high on data usage. Do you watch anything like youtube? Vids chew up a lot of data. Other than that I'm dumbfounded.

I'll bow out and let zocster take the reigns

Few questions hmm ubertwitter, do you have it pulling tweets in the background? What about msn etc do you login when you want to?

@DrNut: I tried opening a youtube vid once, but seeing that it switches to WAP when I watch the video, I never did it again.

@zocster: My ubertwitter constantly does have a sign that there are new tweets so I guess it's always on. I only log-on to MSN when I need to to which isn't very often but I do tend to leave my Yahoo mssgr on all the time except when I log-on to my account in the computer as it automatically logs off when it's in use at another device.

I called Telecom just now to clarify this and they said I haven't used 1GB as what *333 had said but I've used 550mb as of last night. It's not as big, but I still don't think I've used up 550mb. Or do my apps really eat up that much data?

That's still quite a substantial amount. Did telecom say how long that 550mb was over?

I don't have apps that are running on the background I don't use IM at all as I am mobile so no time to answer. With twitter I turn pulling new tweets off 3k of people each way gets a bit much if pushed in background. May be try those first turn things off.
