Just thought people might like to know that I asked HP about an upgrade to WM5 and they told me that it will be available Oct 2005.

For which model? There are news on HP website that Windows Mobile 5 for HX4700 will be delayed, possibly until 2006:

"This offer will be made available in late Summer 2005 for the hx2000 series. Due to unforeseen extended delays in the availability of a critical 3rd party driver, the upgrade kit for the hx4700 will be delayed to mid to late Spring 2006."

I would guess the driver needed is the one for the touchpad...

Does anybody know if a wm 5 installed device will have the ability to be used as a virtual drive for any computer without activsync via usb2 or bluetooth and whether the contents of sd cards will be accessable?

Another thing, hopefully the bluetooth management will allow you to tap and hold any file/picture and beam by bluetooth like you can with infrared,or god help us,use an intelligent bt manager that turns on automatically when you tap/hold transfer by bt and then turns itself off as soon as the transfer has taken place to save on power.

I have a Windows Mobile 5 device, part of the Microsoft Beta 2. At least on that version there's no option to use it as a virtual drive. As for Bluetooth, it is using the Microsoft stack. If you drag-and-drop a file from your desktop to the icon corresponding to the your device, it will receive the file (or if you use Send To | Bluetooth | [Device]).

The Pockt PC File Explorer does have the option to tap-and-hold Beam File, which will scan for IR or Bluetooth devices and send the file.

It will not turn Bluetooth on/off automatically for these operations.
