Anyone know the official status of Activesync 4.0 ?
Presume it is mandatory for WM5.0 devices - JASJAR & PPC-6600 to cradlesync.

It is mandatory, but you should only use the version that is distributed on the CD with the device. That's because it contains the correct device ID, which is not present in the version available for download on MSDN. This version remains for use of developers only, since it may not contain all device ID and it is of use only when running it for the emulator (or upgrading a current ActiveSync installation).

And actually it is for the Sprint PPC-6700 (HTC Apache) only, since the Sprint PPC-6600 is based on Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (HTC Harrier).

Hmmm, that's a new one on me. Why should the software version be keyed to a specific device?

Dopn't known exactly why, but it does happen like this. Sometimes users install the newer ActiveSync 3.8 downloaded from the Microsoft site, and pluging the Pocket PC or Smartphone causes a "Device not recognised" message. This is solved by installing the ActiveSync software from the CD and then updating with the download version.

It seems that the CD versions come with different .inf files...
