i saw an article on this site about virus protection for PDAs.
is this really necesary? are there really viruses out there that can travel from palm to palm?? how? email attachments?? unprotected network ports??
anyone ever seen a palm os virus?

how do anti-virus comapnies find these viruses? it seems to me the potential for a palm virus to spread far andwide would be slim so how effective are the antivirus products anyways?

Taniwha, I know of three Palm trojan programs - not virus.

The difference between trojan program and virus is that an user has to install the first one, while the second is capable of replicating its code - via an infected program or a diskette.

The things we've most seen lately are the worms, and they're different from virus because they can actively look for other systems to replicate itself.

These are all called malware.

So, answering your question, yes, there are a few malware for Palm OS around. I don't remember seeing these for the Pocket PC world, but better safer than sorry.
