Please users of the Nokia's PC Suite 6.6, could you please help settle my mind at ease by providing some screenshots of how much improvement that Nokia's PC Suite 6.6 has become when it comes to synchronisation between MS Outlook and Nokia's phone book.

Previous experience with Nokia's PC Suite for 3650 had me feeling frustrated in terms of the unmatching mapping between Outlook's fields and Nokia's Phonebook fields.

for example: Nokia's Phonebook can have a lot of fields for single contact, which may lead to insufficient fields on Outlook when synchronising between the two. In most cases, the fields are not aligned properly except the common set.

Test 1:
Create a fake contact on outlook (fake1) with all the available common fields filled in. so First, Middle, Last names are filled, Company, Position, phones, emails, notes, birthday, anniversary etc..... filled.

Then sync with Nokia's phonebook and see if all the fields are sync over correctly?

Test 2:
Create a fake contact on nokia's phonebook (fake2) and repeat the same tasks as Test 1 and sync with outlook and see what fields are sync over correctly.

Please post your finding here, and if you have screenshots that will be great too!

This mean a lot to me as i'm in a big dilemma with getting next new phone but not very confident with Nokia's conduit, and not impress with Imate's lack of cable-data-modem thing...

I thank you all in advance! :-)

(and thank you to Mauricio and Disenchanted one for tolerating with my stubborn request! LOL)

I'd do it for you - only if Nokia New Zealand was a good enough company to actually send some for review. You know my point of view: companies that don't reply to emails are the first in my list of "Do not buy from"...

I have got some words from Infosyncworld (N70 review) about Nokia's conduit software... not great!

(From the last paragraph)
The usual drawbacks remain, however, with local synchronization of PIM data towards Lotus Notes or Microsoft Outlook not only being partial but also an agonizingly slow and cumbersome process - a problem that, incomprehensibly, has not been addressed since the introduction of the 7650, Nokia's first smartphone, over three years ago. Proper built-in support for over-the-air groupware synchronization could to some extent have mitigated this issue for business users, but as is it remains a royal cock-up.

I think I might have found the solution to my (almost) life long question... (okay, this is one of many life long questions i have.....)

from: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22419

Outlook Fields & PC Suite
This is relevant to the 7650 and 6600.

Nokia have confirmed the following Phone/Outlook mappings:
Company Company
Job Title - Job Title
Telephone - Other
Telephone - (Home) Home
Tel (business) - Business
Mobile - Mobile
Mobile (home) - Not Mapped
Mobile (business) - Not Mapped
Fax Other - Fax
Fax Home - Not Mapped
Pager - Pager
DTMF - Not Mapped
E-mail - Email
E-mail (home) - Email 3
E-mail (business) - Email 2
Address (home) - Not Mapped
PO Box - Not Mapped

Ctry/Reg (bus) - Country Region
URL add. (home) - Not Mapped
URL add. (business) - Web page address

Phone Birthday Creates Calendar event that appears in the Note field
Note - Note

This list as as sent by Nokia - the Address (business) was blank in the mail, hence the "?".

incidentally, there's one for SonyEricsson too.

Outlook Field Mapping (P800/P900/P910 series)

CONTACTS:

OUTLOOK FIELD - HANDSET FIELD

First Name - First name
Last Name - Last name
Business Telephone Number - Phone(w)
Home Telephone Number - Phone(h)
Mobile Telephone Number - Mobile(w)
Company name - Company
Job Title - Job Title
E-mail Address - Email (w)
Business Fax Number - Fax(w)
Web page address - Web
Business Street - Address
Business City - City
Business State/Province - Region
Business ZIP/Postal code - Postcode
Business Country/Region - Country
Description field - Notes

note: Any other fields or values in Outlook that are not mentioned above are not synchronised to the handset

CALENDAR:

OUTLOOK FIELD - HANDSET FIELD

Start Date - Date
Start Time - Time
End date - Date
End Time - Until
Reminder Date - Alarm
Reminder Time - Alarm
Subject - Subject
Location - Location
Private - Private
Notes - Description
Type - Type

note: Any other fields or values in Outlook that are not mentioned above are not synchronised to the handset

TASKS:

OUTLOOK FIELD - HANDSET FIELD

Due Date - Due date
Reminder Date - Alarm
Reminder Time - Alarm
Subject - Subject
Private - Private
Notes - Description
Importance - Priority
Completed - Completed
Priority - Priority

note: Any other fields or values in Outlook that are not mentioned above are not synchronised to the handset

This solution is valid for the following product and environment:
P800, P802, P900, P908, P910i, P910c, P910a

This solution also answers the following questions:

  • Some fields in Outlook are not synchronised to the phone

  • Some values in Outlook are not transferred to the phone after synchronisation

  • Some information from Outlook is missing from the phone

  • How the fields in Outlook and the handset are mapped in synchronisation

  • How are the different fields in Outlook and phone mapped when synchronizing

  • What contacts fields in Outlook are synchronized to the phone

Causes of this problem:
values or fields not supported by Symbian operating system

I will do it.
I am using a 6680. But I already experienced bad things with the synchronisation.

I will do the requested test this weekend and keep you informed.

Test 1 done:
I created a fake contact, tried to fill out every field. I have the snapshots just tell me where to send. I used the same words for every field as a field name (like Company: company, etc)

I do not know how should I show you what I have after synchro in the 6680 contacts menu so I write it down here:

Name displayed as First Last
Going into the contact I see the following under each other:

Company
Company Department

Job title
Jobtitle

Tel. (home)
09999999

Tel. (business)
021999999

Mobile
021999999

Fax (business)
09888888

Email
first.last@company.com

Web address
http://www.company.com

Street (business)
99 Street Pl Downtown

City (business)
Auckland

Ctry./Reg. (bus.)
New Zealand

Birthday
21/10/2005

Note
Notes, notes, notes

These were the visible fields in the 6680 contacts menu.

Fields were not synchronised from Outlook into the phone: Nickname, Middle name, name suffix, name prefix, IM address, Office name, Manager's name, Assistant's name, Spouse's name, Anniversary date, Profession

I think it's not that bad after all....

Test 2 done!

The results are the same like in Test 1.
I created a contact and filled the following fields:
Name, Company, Job title, Nickname, Telephone, Mobile, Fax, E-mail, User ID, Web address, P.O Box, Extension, Street, Postal/ZIP code, City, State/Province, Country/Region, Birthday, Note,

I have the snapshots. The following fields were not synchronised into Outlook:
Nickname, User ID, Extension,

I hope this will help you to choose.... :)
BTW: I am waiting for the new N70 to arrive to NZ, because I will buy one. It's a very good phone and Symbian has already proven for me. I am using some very good apps on my 6680 at the moment.

However I was looking at the Jasjar, but it's price just too high for me.
