I have an ipaq rx3700 with a total main memory of 56.66Mb and have allocated storage 31.5mb program 25.15mb but only have available 7.2 and 9.9 respectivley. I have used the facility to find large files using this memory but there are no results being shown and no programs running. the lack of memory is causing some programs to fail notably the media streaming facility in nervo. Where can I find the files using this memory and once found where do I put them. I have plenty of room in the ipaq file store but do not know which files or programs to move.

You have some stuff to look at:

  • Soft reset the device and check if there is a \temp folder and delete its contents.
  • If you use Internet Explorer frequently tap on Tools | Options and tap the [Delete Files] button
  • Remove some programs and install these on the Storage. But make sure there's at least 2.5x the space needed for the program installation - the .cab file will be copie to the Storage while the installation is in progress.
  • Make sure your ActiveSync Inbox is not set to synchronise atachments (this is done on ActiveSync on your PC.
  • If you have a SD card configure Inbox to store Attachments on the card (this is done on Inbox options).

The best thing to do is to buy a SD card and install any programs to this card. You can remove the programs you already have in your Pocket PC and when installing these again click [No] when asked if you want to install in the default installation folder. Then select [Storage Card] from the installation location list.

brilliant. I now have 18.37mb storage and 11.61 program available. Is this about right with no programs running? I noticed that in windows/messinging folder I have 135 files each 1.49kb. is this correct. They are shown as archive mpb files.
Also I noticed that I have apart from folders over 900 files in the windows folder.

Yes, this should be good to have the Pocket PC running ok. don't worry about the \Windows or \Windows\Messaging folders - you don't want to delete anything there.

I think the most important thing to do is to install programs on a SD card from now on - and possibly remove some programs already in the main memory and reinstall on the SD card. You can get a Pretec 1GB SD card 133x speed from Best Buy for about $80 - or even cheaper online (check prices here).
